'He's a random loner!' Brackentail replied, turning his head to stare at her. 'He's some random loner, but Spiritstar decides that she cares about him more than the Clan, and doesn't even consult me about it! She expects us all to be fine with it?'

Snowlily:
The white she-cat sighed at the outrage in his voice, ears flicking instictively to the loud volume before stilling in a half-back position. She looked at him with a worried blue gaze. "She still trusts your judgement, but maybe she just wanted to go with her own choice this time. I know you're her deputy, but she's been leading longer than you've been second-in-command, and maybe she just didn't think you'd understand if she told you." She shrugged, glancing down. "He's very young- maybe her motherly instincts are just kicking in. I know I wouldn't leave him out in the forest alone. He really seems very sweet- not at all arrogant, for sure." She said, attempting to placate and reassure the fiery tom. She did, however, understand his point of view. "It is a bit odd that she let him in without question though, I'll give you that." She murmured, glancing down at her paws. It went against her trusting nature to be suspicious of such a seemingly-innocent young cat, but she also felt a flicker of the doubt that was consuming Brackentail at the moment. "Getting angry right now will do no one any good. I think we should give them both the benefit of the doubt. Spiritstar has rarely lead us wrong before, and she seems very sure of the lon- I mean... apprentice." It certainly felt weird reffering to a stranger as one of their own.

The tail Brackentail was named for was flicking irritably. He didn't respond to Snowlily - he knew that she was talking a bit of sense. However, he still didn't like that Spiritstar had just brought the loner in.

Applefrost sighed, staring out of the nursery in silence.

Nettlepool worked on the kits legs, before stopping eventually.

Snowlily:
The fluffy she-cat sighed, watching him stare irritably at the ground for a moment before standing, shaking out her thick white pelt and putting a cheery expression on. "Let's forget about it for a little. Wanna go hunting? We haven't gone night-hunting in forever!" She said with an eager smile, closing the distance between them with a bound and standing in front of him, interrupting his stare. "Please?" She added, tilting her head slightly with a pleading expression. In addition to wanting to cheer up her friend, she also didn't want to go back to camp just yet. She knew the cats would still be causing a commotion that she didn't really feel like dealing with or listening to.

Brackentail hummed quietly before nodding. 'Sure, that sounds good.' He sighed, standing up

"Not sure if that's good or bad," Stormgaze purred. He was fond of apprentices, nearly always bubbly and eager to learn. He'd been like that once, the tomcat recalled fondly. "Although I'm better off than anycat stuck mentoring somecat like you," He said jokingly, nudging Emberstrike. "Always having to deal with you whining in their ear about how loud the birds are."

Mintpaw lashed his tail energetically. "WHAT!" His eyes widened. Great Starclan, why was being quiet so HARD? "Oh, uhh... I mean, what?" The young tom dropped his voice to a whisper. "That. Is. Wild!" He bounced in a circle. "I wonder if anyone else in the clan knows it yet!"

Outside Apprentice's Den

The second the clan meeting was over, Ivystorm marched off to find something to do. The clan could fall apart at any moment, with weak dens, rare food, and constant attacks from both foxes and cats. The she-cat was horrified of the possibility of her clan being destroyed... it was her home, her only refuge. Ivystorm didn't know what she'd do if it fell. It's okay, Ivy. Deep breaths. Gotta be useful. But how?... Well, there's a new apprentice. Fixing up the den couldn't help. Shaking her fluffy grey fur, "Ivy" marched over to the edge of camp. Searching around, she soon found a sturdy oak branch. Securing it in her jaw, she dragged it towards the den and threw it over the top, weaving it in and out of the other boughs in order to secure it.

Emberstrike narrowed her eyes in mock anger. "I don't complain about birds!" She said with indignance. "If a bird was bothering me, I would kill it." She sat, wrapping her tail around her paws and fixing him in a challenging glare, managing to seem threatening despite having to tilt her head to look up at him. "I do the same thing to large buffoons, so I would watch out if I were you."

Maskpaw stifled a giggle at the she-cat's words, earning a pleasantly surprised glance from the she-cat. As a kit, she had heard tales of the tortoiseshell's hatred, but it seemed her mentor brought out a more friendly side of her. Then again, it could be the she-cat was simply changing her outlook. "Stormgaze? Do you mind if I go help Ivystorm over there? I mean, it's a bit late for us to do much outside of camp, right?" She asked, unsure of how mannerly she should be. Some mentors, she knew, preferred purely a professional relationship, while others seemed to be more like a friend to their apprentice.

The slender she-cat rolled her eyes at his outburst and gave him a good cuff to the ear, though a smile tugged at her muzzle. Once he had calmed down, she pondered his question. "Well, Brackentail sure does." She muttered, eyes darting down to the right and her ears dropping. "He wasn't very pleased. He ran out of camp almost as soon as I got to the Listening Ferns." She said, referencing the spot by the leader's den that they used so often it had needed a name. "At least, I think he did. I didn't actually see him leave, but he looked like he was in quite a hurry to leave the den." She said, tail flicking nervously. "Did you see anything?"

Snowlily brightened at his agreement, bouncing to her paws and her tail going up. "Great! Want to head to the edge?" She asked, eyes sparkling. She was still wearing down her stored up energy from moons in the nursery with Maskpaw, and a long hunting trip would be sure to help her get to sleep. Besides, she was eager to prove herself after the encounter with a rogue that produced Maskpaw, and the best way to do that was to march boldly back into the place it had happened. Not many knew the truth of Maskpaw's heritage- only Brackentail and a few others- but she didn't want him thinking she was afraid of the dark. Plus, patrols usually stuck close to camp, so there should be plenty of lazy prey waiting on the outskirts of the territory.

Stormgaze turned away from Emberstrike to look at his new apprentice. "Hello, Maskpaw!" He purred. "That's a wonderful idea. I'm sure she could use some help. The camp really needs some work." He resisted the urge to shout, 'Hey! Look how responsible my apprentice is! I got the best one! Woo!!!' , and instead patted Maskpaw encouragingly on the back with the tip of his tail.
"Emberstrike, you wanna help?" Stormgaze asked, hoping she would.

A few muttered words were spoken inside the den. Ivystorm tried to ignore them while she worked, now sticking clumps of leaves in the gaps between branches, but she couldn't help but overhear something about the deputy have a 'rage episode'.

Mintpaw pondered for a moment, thinking back. "Nah," he admitted. "I was too distracted by the kittypet to pay attention to him." The young apprentice sniffed, remembering the smell of Cinna. "Y'know, he actually looks kinda strong, especially for a kittypet. I'll bet he can swim almost as well as us."
Suddenly, a rustling outside the den startled the two cats. Mintpaw made frantic, dramatic gesturing noises with his tail, trying to signal to Gingerpaw.
"UH... YEAH. I CAN'T BELIEVE WE GOT A NEW CAT. WOW. THAT'S SO COOL." The not-so-smooth tomcat spoke in monotone, speaking way too loud for his words to be considered normal.
