"what happened to whiteflower and stoneheart?"
ivystep asked worriedly, her face betraying her
anxiety. the rest of the clan had gathered and
were mourning the loss of two of their most
beloved clanmates.

pebblesong took a closer look at the two bodies,
her brow furrowed. "well.. it looks as if they
swallowed the foxglove seeds from the bush
near them," the medicine cat concluded, noting
the missing flowers and scattered petals on the
ground. "it looks like murder," she followed up.
"whiteflower's jaw is dislocated and there are
claw marks on his back and chest."

the clan murmured, nodding. after a moment,
deerstar spoke up. "we must exile the cat who
did this."

pebblesong knew what was happening when all
eyes turned to her, even if no one said it.

"you can't possibly think it was me!" she insisted,
flustered. "i did nothing but help!"

"yes... but you knew what happened in depth and
almost immediately after you got here," dappleheart
argued, tilting his head.

the other cats murmured their agreement, though
some were still hesitant. pebblesong backed up,
tears in her eyes. nightpaw looked back at her
loving and caring mentor, looking as if she were
about to cry as well. "please don't go.. i don't know
what i'll do without you..."

"i have to," she said, breaking down into sobs, and
fled. she ran down the river, across the sand, away
from the clan for which she did nothing but good and
loved with all her heart.

her tears blurred her vision, so she didn't see the tree
root. the sleek dark grey cat crashed to the pebbled
bank of the river and her head collided with a rock.

her vision instantly went black. as the medicine cat
bled out into the river, a bird fluttered onto a low
branch near her and began to sing. the last thing she
heard was the bird's sweet song, guiding her into a
forest of stars...

you exiled a witness and severed a friendship
in the process, riverclan.
