Splashpaw looked back at the litter, then back to Softberry.

"I did." Splashpaw said with apprehension. She was nervous about caring for little ones, feeling like she was still little herself. However, she didn't want Softberry to notice so she continued the conversation. "Is it normal to have four kits? That seems like a lot."

She was also curious about Hawkcry. She wanted to know why he was at the medicine cat den. Softberry seemed to be on edge though so she decided to ask one question at a time.

"Four kits is quite a large litter. Usually there's two or three. However, these many new warriors to the Clan. And we're going to need them." Softberry's eyes were half open, slightly heavy with a lack of sleep, but she was used to long nights. The thick furred molly gazed over at Hawkcry when Splashpaw did and licked her lips, trying to get the taste of herb out of her mouth. She hadn't eaten a proper meal today, and it was too late to do so now.

Out of the corner of her eye, Splashpaw saw Softberry look in Hawkcry's direction. Since Softberry seemed to have him on her mind, Splashpaw decided to ask anyway.

"Softberry..." Splashpaw paused as she second-guessed herself. "What's wrong with Hawkcry?"

She looked back at Softberry, hoping that she had not overstepped her boundaries.

Dustspeck felt his pelt warm beneath his fur as his ears turned pink. She caught no sight of her shift away so he wrapped his tail around his side. "The moon is beautiful" he purred, the words slipping from his mouth before he had the chance to stop them. His pelt bristled, his jaw clenching as he continued to stare up at the sky.

"Hawkcry?" Softberry returned her gaze to her second apprentice, flicking an ear casually. "He got into a battle with a rogue that's speaking with Scorchstar right now." The tabby she-cat's jaws parted to a yawn and she took a moment to just close her green eyes and relax, then shook herself awake again. "He's got a torn ear and a bad scratch on the throat, as well as a few cuts on his pelt."

Splashpaw noticed Softberry stifling a yawn and decided that she should not distract Softberry from what she needed to get done.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" Splashpaw asked. "Are you hungry or need anything?"

Splashpaw wondered if there would be any prey left. It was rather late. She wished that she had made sure her mentor got a meal in. 'I also wish I could go out and find a meal for her myself' She thought bitterly.

Softberry was sure that her tiredness was evident but that couldn't stop her from performing her duty. Both Tinypaw and Splashpaw were too young to handle situations on their own if there was a crisis. With Snow in the leader's den, alone with Scorchstar, just the thought made her nervous. But she trusted her leader. "No, I'm alright. Might as well get used to an empty belly - with new kits coming, food will be consumed faster than it's eaten."

The pretty little warrior female huffed a sound akin to a human's sigh, but a sound that was all cat. Shaking her head, she batted a fly from her ear. She smiled hearing the voice that was neither enemy, but no really friend-friend yet either. "Brother was being mean! Want to go hunting?"
