She smiled and felt happier now at her mentor's words. She crouched down and swayed her tail like he said, she put her weight on her hunches and pounced. She landed on dirt but it was just a practice. She looked around and sniffed the air for prey. She saw a mouse and crouched again and swaying her tail a small bit, she shuffled her paws to steady and the pounce! She was on the mouse in a second her claws retracted after it was dead she picked it up and smiled at him.

Cedarpaw rolled back to his paws. He shrugged, a bit self-conscious. "Well, I still have to learn all the difficult moves and stuff." he mumbled, twitching his ears. He nodded and then took a step forwards. He lashed out a front paw towards his mentor, claws-sheathed, aiming at her chest.

"Of course, Brightpaw," he purred, cheery to see that an apprentice was so determined. "I'm sure they'll be grateful. Most apprentices are too lazy to go and give the elders prey," he joked. "their mentors make them, though."

"That was good!" Pineleaf mewed, stooping to lick her chest fur. "You might want to try it a little quicker--flash your paw out, strike like lightning, and draw back your paw so your opponent can't use it like they can in the move Tail Yank." That had happened to her once during training. She hadn't retracted her paw enough and her mentor easily grasped it before pulling it with strength. He was a strict mentor, she remembered happily. A great but strict mentor who died of a dog attack while they were traveling and died saving her. Pineleaf let out a soft growl and then smiled as happily as before at Cedarpaw.

Pineleaf rolled her eyes. "Oh, Cedarpaw, stop being so noble and modest. I'm sure you'll master them. Try this one. It's called Scruff Shake. It's most effective against, rats, but smaller animals usually work as well. Sometimes my Twoleg caught rats." She shuddered unconsciously. "They were huge. Nearly the size of me. And since we are in unmarked territory, you'll probably want to know how to fight rats." Pineleaf had never done the move too well. It had held her back in training and in many other things. But she was going to teach Cedarpaw how to do it. She was determined, and when Pineleaf was determined, she was the stubbornest she-cat on this side of the planet.

"Practice with a mouse--here," she said, clamping her jaws around a stupid mouse who had just come to see what this was all about. She kept the clasping of the mouse between her canines light so that it would live, but just firm enough so it wouldn't slip out of her mouth and dart away. "Don't let it run away," she warned. "And this will be your food for the day, so don't spoil it too much. What you do is you grab it by theirr scruff with your teeth, and shake and powerfully as you can. Then, you release and throw them a good way off. A good shake is usually enough to kill or at least stun them, and you can then finish off." She looked up, having drawn a diagram in the dirt with her claw.

As Songpaw limped towards the river, she heard something. She sniffed the air and know the scent. Its Shadowpaw! She thought as she blindly kept going slowly,"Shadowpaw!?" She called as she tried to find him so she could ask him if he could help her find the river.

The young tabby tom swished his tail, slightly amused by his mentor. He was rapidly trying to fill his mind with all she said, and keep it organized at the same time. She was moving them along at a fast pace, but he didn't mind because most of what she was speaking of was straightforwards and easy. He gave her a nod of acceptance and politely waited for her to finish explaining. "O-okay." he mewed, slightly startled as she grabbed the unsuspecting mouse from nearby. He swished his tail and moved his head forwards so he could take the rodent from Pineleaf's jaws. "I'll be careful." he promised with a glint of humor in his gaze. He gently took the mouse from her.

It struggled in his jaws but he kept a firm hold, planting his claws in the ground to keep his balance. He then began to shake his head rapidly, feeling the weight swing from his maw. After a few seconds he let go and the mouse arced over him and landed with a slight thump in the leaves. Cedarpaw spun around and pounced on the creature, but there was no need as it looked unconscious already. He glanced to his mentor, wondering if he was supposed to kill it yet. "Was that okay?" he mewed, twitching his ears and holding a paw over the mouse.

Shadowpaw perks his ears up at the call of his name. He opened his mouth to taste the air, and the sweet scent of Songpaw wafted over to him. Songpaw! A familiar gray tabby shape stood a few fox-lengths away. Shadowpaw instantly dropped his catch and scrambled over to the she-cat he had missed so much. "Songpaw!" he called with glee, "Where have you been? Are you okay? Are you hurt at all?" He searched frantically for any signs of wounds on the blind cat's pelt. The last time he had seen her was at the temporarily-used camp, in the medicine cat's den.

Sprucepaw rose to her paws and followed him with a slightly nervous glance over her shoulder. They were already barely in SunClan territory and she was worried about leaving on a small level. But she didn't want to say no to the eager tom, who had been so nice to her. The medicine cat apprentice trotted to catch up and then pinned her ears as she caught the scent of Twolegs and saw the nest. He was a kittypet? She lowered her head and padded after him, eyes flicking warily around the unfamiliar setting. She watched as he began to dig and pulled up a long orange stick thing. She glanced at the nest again, and saw no Twolegs appearing outside. Sprucepaw moved towards Pistachio. This was a game? Strange. But she didn't want to be rude; besides, it looked like it might be fun. Nodding to the tom, she scraped at the dirt and clawed out one of the orange sticks. "What are these?" she mewed quietly. Her ears flicked towards the nest, her body tense and alert in case the Twolegs came out.
