Ospreystar sighed, Nightpaw must have still been asleep, best to leave her that way so she needn't know what horrors had occurred. She spotted Bramblestorm walking back into camp carrying prey, at least they wouldn't need to worry about going hungry. She walked over to Pumpkinmask, "Are you okay?" Foxfall was her brother, other than his kits and his mate, her sister, she would be the most hurt by this. "Do you want to come on patrol to clear your head?"

she blinked, and looked up at Ospreystar. "I'm fine." she replied, getting up and shaking her pelt. " yes, that would be nice, thanks." a run through the forest was just what she needed.

mousepaw's eyes were wide with disbelief.

"my daughter is innocent!" honeystorm spat
at briarthorn, who bristled as she shied
away, shrinking back, her one eye widened.

"don't talk to her like that!" morningdove
returned, sliding between his mate and his
sister, ears laid back. "what in starclan's
name has gotten into you?!"

"into me! how dare you accuse mousepaw!
thinking she would kill foxfall--what insane
reasoning have you for that?!"

"enough!" it was shortclaw who spoke this
time, eyes narrowed as his tail twitched, his
voice level but his eyes showing his desper-
-ation. having two mates, he wasn't truly
known for being close to either of them, but
no cat doubted his loyalty to his kits.

"shortclaw, the clan has spoken." ospreystar
returned at bramblestorm looked on in
jealousy, eyes narrowed as her tail curled
around shadepaw, pulling him closer as he
tried to join the protest.

"mousepaw must go."

honeystorm gave a short cry, cloudpaw
looking on in horror, before littlepaw finally
spoke up, lifting his nose from the ginger
fur of his father's body.

"if she goes, i go!"

he announced, standing defensively beside
the apprentice he's grown up beside, the
one he'd come to love.

ospreystar's eyes widened, and lilypool
gasped. "littlepa--"

"fine." the leader returned, however, eyes
betraying no emotion, voice unwavering.
"go."

littlepaw narrowed his eyes, teeth bared,
before he turned, nudging his love's flank
as he guided her towards the camp entrance
whilst she sobbed.

they did not look back.

betrayal.

betrayal shone in nightpaw's eyes as she
was held down. her killer stood over her,
eyes shining cruelly. the grief and rage
she felt tore through her with more pain
than her wounds, sharper than the claws
that were killing her. her eyes shone with
it, tears filled with it, sobs piercing the
air as she shrieked in pain and fury.

it didn't take long for her too die, but it
felt like an eternity. as the one who had
done the killer licked their claws, tail
twitching, the second couldn't help but
stare at nightpaw's body, eyes still open,
jaws still parted in a snarl.

the tip of a tail touched the second killer's
shoulder.

"you did good, today. next time, you can
try it yourself." came the low comment.

the accomplice of the killer trembled,
eyes burning.

"...i don't want to."

"...you don't have a choice. you made a
promise."

i know, cried their thoughts. i know.

"go clean up."

nightpaw's body was found by the border,
shredded, her jaws still parted but her
eyes tenderly closed.
