Sootface was silent for a moment. He couldn't explain it--maybe it was the loneliness and hurt of having lost first his mate and now his brother, but he didn't want to say goodbye. I'm being so silly, he told himself. Goodbyes to loved ones are always hard, but goodbyes to strangers? That's what Reed was to him, right? A stranger, nothing more. And yet, he still didn't want to say goodbye, not yet. "Well...I've got a little while to spare," he meowed hesitantly at last. "Maybe you could show me where you've been staying by the lake? I've always wanted to explore around there. If you don't mind, that is."

Reed blinked, then nodded. "Sure, there's actually a lot going on over where I stay," Reed meowed. He dashed over to a somewhat large hole, looking back to make sure that Sootface was following him. "Okay, so, this is where I usually sleep," he meowed. "I like looking at the lake in the morning."

Sootface hadn't expected Reed to dash off like that, but quickly trotted after him. Once they'd stopped at the hole, he gave it a sniff and peeked inside. "How deep is it in there?" It kind of looked like a fox den from the outside, and Sootface wondered if it continued underground.

Reed shrugged. "I've never actually tried going all the way down," he replied. "From where I usually stay, I can see that it goes pretty deep." Reed never really thought about what had previously lived in this hole. He hadn't caught any fresh scents the first time he found this place, so he just assumed that it had been abandoned. "Anyways," he meowed, beginning to walk away from his den, "I've found some pretty good hunting places, if you'd like to see those."

Sootface backed away from the den, nodding. "Sure." He wasn't sure if he was actually planning on hunting outside of Moonclan territory or not; he felt it would almost be hypocritical of him to do when he wouldn't allow any non-clan cats to hunt within Moonclan territory. But then again, was he already being hypocritical by exploring around the lake when he wouldn't allow Reed to explore Moonclan territory? He knew it was slightly different, seeing as loners didn't typically have territory the same way that clan cats did, but perhaps clan cats should only stay on the territory they had claimed for themselves. It only seemed fair, after all. "Are sure it's okay for me to be here? I should have asked first..." He realized he'd just sort of imposed on Reed immediately after escorting the loner off Moonclan territory, which he still felt a bit bad for. It's not like I had a choice. Someone else would have driven him off if I hadn't, and they probably wouldn't have been as nice about it.

"No, no, you can be here. Besides, I like showing cats where I live," Reed purred. Reed waved his tail, signalling to Sootface to follow him. Reed looked up to a particularly thick tree. "I watch this tree sometimes, and I've noticed that a lot of squirrels like to climb this tree." Reed recalled a time he tried to climb the tree. He nearly fell a few times, but there was an amazing view once he got to the top of it. "It's really tall, but it's nice once you do get to the top."

Sootface followed Reed's gaze upward to the top of the tree. It was rather tall, but he imagined there would be a good view from the top of it--and perhaps a good place to hunt squirrels and birds. Part of him wanted to climb it and see for himself, but he held himself back. "You like to climb, then?" he asked Reed.

"Yes," Reed replied. "Though I'm not the best at it." Reed remembered the first time he had gotten to a forest. That was a while ago, he thought. "I had to teach myself how to climb trees," he meowed. "I grew up in a place that had no trees." Reed liked climbing, because he liked having a good view over everything. It made him feel more secure. "Do you like climbing?

Sootface tilted his head. What kind of place had no trees? Even Twolegplace seemed to have them, although to be fair, Sootface had never wandered into the depths of the place. Could Reed have been a kittypet once, living in a part of Twolegplace that had no trees? The loner's question jerked him out of his thoughts. "I did when I was an app--when I was younger," he replied, cutting himself off at the word 'apprentice.' He doubted Reed would even know what that was. "Now I just climb for hunting."

"Climbing is good for your legs, you know," Reed stated, kneading his claws into the ground. Reed looked back over to the lake. From what he had remembered, his old home had a similar lake. Though it was much longer. "I remember when I was younger, I used to swim a lot, too," he meowed. "I lived near a lake so big, I couldn't see the end of it." Reed wondered if he was still able to swim like he used to.
