Snowpaw noticed that he was busy with Hazelmoon. She decided it was best to speak to Shadowstep about her training later. She stood up and padded off. Slightly disappointed, Snowpaw didn't know what to do. "Maybe I can find a denmate to play with." Her tail stood straight up and curled like a hook. Snowpaw' whiskers twitched. "Or maybe I can change the elder's moss." She thought it was a better idea to put her apprentice duties first.

Ashstar smiled at the sight of Dapplednose approaching. "Good morning." His eyes sparkled with affection. "I thought it would be nice to help you organize patrols this morning." Clearing his throat, the tom took a step forward. "Listen up. Tigerlily, Smoketail, Shadowstep, and Spiritwhisker." He looked at each cat, giving them a slight nod. "I want you and your apprentices to do a border patrol. Smoketail will lead it." The gray and white tom stepped back. His eyes shifted to his mate. His smile was like the smile of an excited kit. "I'll let you do your job now and organize the hunting patrol."Though it wasn't usual for the leader to organize the patrols, he still missed getting to do it.

Mouseberry chuckled at the mentor and apprentice duo. She couldn't wait for the day that she was given an apprentice of her own. Cloudstep was a good example to follow on how to be a good mentor. She was glad to be able to tag along with the two and see how he goes about mentoring. "This should be a fun experience!" She chirped. The she-cat rose to her paws. Her eyes rested on her mate, waiting for him to lead them outside of camp.

Nightpaw's eyes sparkled even brighter. "Yeah! I'll be the best there ever was!" His smile took up the majority of his face. The apprentice began to daydream of being a mighty warrior and others gathering around him to admire him. He was brought back to reality at Ashstar's yowl. In his mind, he was begging the leader not to say Sootnose's name. Relief flooded over him once he realized they wouldn't be apart of the border patrol. The apprentice was ready to start training. "At least that's one patrol we won't be on." He chuckled, looking up at his mentor.

● Cinderpaw slowly stretched and ran out of the apprentice den. On the inside she felt darkness and decay. When she had first joined the clan she was excited, but now she knew how this clan worked, and she didn't know if she liked it. She knew she would assigned a mate once she became a warrior. Cinderpaw had felt a fire inside of her since two moons ago, she knew that this was the time. The time to form the group she thought of many moons ago... her group of rebellious followers who also believed assigned mates were wrong. She walked into the clearing, Sootnose had never seemed to like being assigned to Smoketail. She might be a candidate for her group, but personally she didn't seem like the super rebellious type, Cinderpaw could help with that.
"Hey, Sootnose, hello Nightpaw."
Cinderpaw nodded her head toward Nightpaw in acknowledgement of the younger apprentice.
"Do you mind if I watch you guys train while I wait for Limeleaf?"●

He looked around the clearnng noticing how Ashstar and his mate was orginising some patrols. Sighing he at last noticed his apprentice Rosepaw "hey Rosepaw...do you want to go to do some hunting?" He meowed.

Rosepaw noticed her mentor after awhile of spacing out "..Oh! Uh, sure!"

Smoketail frowned at the thought of talking to Sootnose, but he guessed he should,
just out of curiousity. He heard Ashstar call his name and headed over to the apprentices' den to get his apprentice for the patrol. Before leaving, he waved his tail at Firewillow. "Goodbye and good luck with your mate too." He said, then poked his head in the apprentices' den, looking for Darkpaw.

Thw white apprentice grinned, glad that Spiritwhisker was concerned about her. "Hopefully the patrols will be sent out soon." Cloudypaw muttered to Spiritwhisker.

Lionfang thought for a moment. "Being an apprentice is the step you take to prepare you for the rest of your life. You should appreciate that time, but remember that you can appreciate life much more as you move forward. Once you become a warrior, you will have many more opportunities. You can protect your clan mates, provide for them, and be there for them when they need you," He meowed as his tail brushed the ground softly. "Do you feel like you're not ready to become a warrior because you don't have enough experience? Or is it because you're not ready to let go and move forward?" He asked, tilting his head. "There's no pressure on you to answer, but you may want to think about it," Lionfang added.

After her announcement, she turned back to Ashstar. "Whenever you are free, would you be up to hunting with me?" She asked, her tail twitching excitedly.

Sootnose nodded in agreement before the sound of Ashstar's voice rang through the clearing. She turned her head, looking over at him. She felt a surge of relief when she realized she wouldn't be on the same patrol as Smoketail. She flashed Nightpaw a smile "Thankfully, border patrols are pretty boring if no ones lurking around." she said. She looked over at Cinderpaw as she approached, slightly surprised. Was she just interested in being around Nightpaw? Surely she couldn't think Sootnose was some great warrior to learn from. She couldn't think of anything special she could have done recently. She opened her mouth to reply to Cinderpaw but the deputy spoke next and she quickly shut it. Looking over at Dappledheart she pricked her ears "Well Cinderpaw, it sounds like you've been chosen to be with us for some hunting, hope you weren't too interested in battle training." she said as she looked back at Cinderpaw and Nightpaw.

Shadowstep pricked his ears hearing his name, looking over at Ashstar then back over at Snowpaw. He noticed how far away she was and made a mental note to make it up to her on the patrol. Probably didn't want to be around for that conversation, can't blame her though. he thought silently. He looked back at Hazelmoon, feeling much more at ease still "Sounds good to me, i'll see you then." he said, he waved his tail in good bye before padding closer to Snowpaw. "Ready for our border patrol?" he asked glancing over at the camp entrance.

Rainypaw turned her head as Sunfeather's voice reached her ears, she smiled brightly at him but was silent as he spoke. Excitement flashed in her eyes at the thought of helping out Sunfeather. He was the senior medicine cat after all, which meant he was the very best there was. "I wouldn't mind at all!" she replied cheerfully. "What do you want to do?" she asked. Though she had some ideas she felt it would be rude to just assume what he wanted.

But he hesitated, glancing away as he narrowed his eyes in thought. After a few moments he finally answered. "I think.. i'll be thinking on that.. for a little bit.." he said before he shook his head. He looked back at Lionfang "Did you know when you were really ready to be a warrior?" he asked.

Snowpaw dipped her head, grateful for Hazelmoon's compliment. "I know I will, I'll train my hardest!" She promised to herself. Snowpaw watched the she-cat go. Perking her ears, she heard the patrols being called out. "A border patrol!" Snowpaw couldn't help purring. "This'll be fun!" she thought as she watched the patrols gather around to set out. "I'm ready Shadowstep!" she bounded to her mentor and flexed her claws. Snowpaw followed her mentor to the patrol group waiting in the clearing. She noticed Smoketail was looking for Darkpaw. "I hope she comes soon." she thought feeling anxious to head out. The white she-cat twitched her tail excitedly.

Burningsun trotted back into camp with a small mouse clamped in his white jaws. He approached the pile and placed his catch on it. Burningsun looked at the pile and sighed. His mouse looked like nothing with all of the other plump squirrels and rabbits. Oh well.
It's prey nonetheless. He thought, shrugging it off before padding over to lie in the sun in front of the warriors den. Burningsun's bright orange eyes glowed in the warm, white light.

The pretty tabby she-cat walked over to the fresh kill pile which she had generously filled with rabbits and squirrels early that day. She chose a plump sparrow off of the pile and sat down to eat it. The prey was plentiful today and the weather was pleasant. Dawnflight had enjoyed her hunting patrol.
