a soft breeze rolled through territory as a young, slender red/brown tabby made her way into camp, a bird and mouse clamped tightly in her maw; her pale orbs danced around the clearing as she made her way towards the fresh-kill pile, depositing her kill. flicking her tail Russetpaw scanned the clearing once more before letting out a sigh, picking the mouse up once again the young molly made her way over towards the elders, hoping to hear one of their tales.

She looked around the camp for Robinpaw, her apprentice. She wanted to start training early today, before everyone else had the same idea as her, she wanted to work on climbing today. She looked towards the apprentices den and started walking that way. She saw the Tom walk outside and begin grooming himself, lazy bum, she thought and walked over to him, "Ready for training to start today?", she asked in a perky tone.

He woke to a start, he had another nightmare. He'd been having the same few nightmares happen over and over again, luckily, he knew they were not prophecies and they would never happen, but there again, he thought they had meant something. He looked nervously out of the den for Nightsong. Maybe it was time he told her about his nightmares.

Hearing his mentors voice, he turned his head and saw Mistyfern. Ears pricking up, he swiftly stood and bounded over to her. "Of course! I'm always ready!" He purred out as his tail waved about behind him. "What are we going to do today?"

"You'll see", she told him and walked out of camp. She started looking for a nice sized tree to try, but not too tall, this didn't need to turn to a disaster. When she came across the right tree, towards the very edge of their territory, this may be too far away, she thought, it's fine nothing will happen, she thought. She flicked her tail towards the tree and sat down. "Climb it", she said, knowing they had never worked on this before, she wanted to wait until he was ready.

Following his mentor, he looked up as they reached a tree. It was a rather big one and he had to tilt his head back to see the top of the tree. "Okay." He had seen cats climb trees plenty of times although he had never tried. Walking up to it, he reached up and dug his claws into the bark. Slowly pulling himself up, he realized how hard it was to actually pull his body weight up and keep going. His ascent was slow as he moved up, soon reaching the first branch.

As more and more cats started to come out, Fishflight rose to her feet at last. Giving the long fur on her chest a quick lick so as to look presentable, she decided it was time to go look for her apprentice, Manglepaw. The two hadn't been paired up for very long, only since the last ceremony about half a moon ago, but she had become quite fond of the young cat already. She was a quick learner and a good listener, and if she pushed herself a bit too hard sometimes, it was only out of eagerness to prove herself. Fishflight could find no fault with that. Gazing around camp, it didn't take her long to locate the small tabby, and she slowly approached just in time to see her land on a leaf. "Well done," the she-cat purred approvingly as she sat down near the apprentice den, curling her bushy tail around her paws. "That was a very nice jump indeed. Did you remember that thing with the tail we practiced the other day?" she inquired, although it seemed apparent that indeed, Manglepaw had remembered and executed it almost perfectly. It was things like this that made it so rewarding to mentor the young molly, and Fishflight hoped that her apprentice felt somewhat the same about her.

Nightsong kept the mouse pushed towards the warrior and replied "Perhaps not but I am sure he will when he wakes up. Since he did so well and helped me yesterday I don't see the harm in letting him sleeping in." The medicine cat draw back her paws and moved them under her. Her amber gaze danced around the clearing and said "You should eat anyhow because what good does it do the rest of us if our warriors are too weak to hunt? Then we all would have empty stomachs and nothing to feed the nursing and the old." Nightsong was gateful for having at least two bites so she technically didn't have an empty stomach for now. The she-cat turned her gaze back at Wrenfoot with a thoughtful look. She thought about adding that warriors often times eat before starting the day but she decided not to.

Looking up, she hadn't expected to hear her mentor but was happy for the praise. "Thanks. I thought I should practice a little more since I couldn't quite get it right last time." She said as he licked her chest fur in slight embarrassment. At the question, she gave a quick nod of her head. "Yes. Are we going to be doing that move again today?" She felt happy that Fishflight was her mentor as she seemed to always know what to do and was an excellent teacher. Purring, she smiled happily. "I want to become as good as you are!"

With an amused twitch of her whiskers, Fishflight thought to herself that that was a very low goal to set. She was one of the worst hunters in the clan, and this often had her doubting whether she was actually the right mentor for young Manglepaw. Had they possibly paired the two of them because they thought she would never learn properly hunt anyway? Her twisted paw was an obvious obstacle that could very well prevent her from the stealth and speed required for hunting. Maybe the leader had thought Manglepaw would be better off becoming a good fisher, like her? After all, the paw that hooked a fish out of the water hardly needed to be in perfect shape, as long as it had sharp claws. Looking at the progress they had already made though, Fishflight felt certain in her heart that her apprentice would become an excellent hunter, and she'd do all she could to get her to that point. Realizing she'd gone quiet for a moment, she focused on the young cat in front of her again. "You'll be even better," she promised, inclining her head slightly. "In fact, I think today it's time you try and catch your own fresh-kill," she announced brightly, convinced that Manglepaw was ready after that excellently performed jump just now. If she could do that to a leaf, and to the bugs they had been practicing on as of late, why wouldn't she be able to do it to a mouse?
