Rushwing followed the other cats in the patrol. He was grateful that he felt more alert now.

Applesong watched as the apprentice left. She hoped that she helped her in some way. Noticing that she was going to be left behind, she jumped to her paws and joined the others.

He grins at her. "Sure, you're on!" He says playfully and he leaps into the air, enjoying being out of the camp.

The female stayed silent, feeling a bit shy. She nods at her before swerving around a tree, avoiding hitting it.

He let's out a soft sigh as he feels Willowpelt's fur brush against his. He smiled to himself, feeling calm as he took in the familiar scents that surrounded him.

Willowpelt started climbing down hill when she smelled the rest of her patrol come out of camp. Her ears perked up at Wolfclaw's sigh. 'Hmm, no scent of prey yet.' "Sunpaw?", she called, wanting to test her apprentice's knowledge. Willowpelt continued climbing downhill with her paws lightly tapping the wet grass. Must have rained last night!

Sunpaw grinned as Tigerpaw accepted her challange. Her head snapped in the direction of her mentor's voice when she called her name. "Yes?" She said as she padded closer to Willowpelt.

"I want you to tell me what you do when you are hunting a rabbit or bunny.", she meowed softly, her tail signaling for the patrol to slow down as the hill landscape became flat. The green grass slowly turned to a yellow and became taller, only leaved about 7 tail lengths of some sort of clearing."Remember, the bunnies are slower.", she hinted.

Sunpaw thought for a moment as she tried to recall what Willowpelt told her before. "Uh, first you stalk it and try to get a close to it a possible." The apprentice paused for a moment. "Then you jump and chase it. When you catch it a suppose you just kill it like anything else. I've never caught a bunny before but I guess they would be easier to catch since you wouldn't have to chase them so much." Sunpaw finished, worried that she had gotten something wrong.

She nodded approvingly. "Good. Now smell the world around you, is there anything you notice?", she asked, head lowering to give Sunpaw a quick lick on her forehead, smoothing the pelt. There was the scent of a vole to the right, its scent hard to detect because of the wheat and barley around. You would barely be able to see it's brown fur through the golden blades. Willowpelt sat down, tail coiling around her paws.

Sunpaw smiled at her mentor's nod of approval. Her earlier worries now washed away she focused on her next task. She sniffed the air and frowned when she noticed nothing in particular. "I-I don't know." The young apprentice said, feeling defeated. She took another sniff and noticed something different this time. It was something familiar but it was hard to pinpoint exactly what it was. "Vole!" She suddenly exclaimed, though careful of her volume.

Willowpelt's tail nudged Sunpaw to the direction of the vole. "Can you try to hunt it?", she whispered, a bit of challenge in her voice. Her eyes watched the vole, making sure it won't escape. If Sunpaw didn't make the catch, I will chase it down and catch it. No prey must be wasted! It feels like Sunpaw is my own daughter. She gives a soft purr, her tail pointed low and started to sweep a little bit, parallel to ground, telling her patrol to spread out and hunt.

Sunpaw puffed her chest out. "Of course!" She said before dropped into her hunter's crouch. The tips that Willowpelt gave earlier about her crouch flashed through her mind. She slowly started to stalk her prey, thankful that the wind was blowing her scent away from the vole. As she was getting close to the unsuspecting critter she accidentally stepped on some kind of insect. Sunpaw realized her mistake when it started to chirp like crazy and drew the attention of the vole in her direction. Knowing that time was limited, she immediately pounced. Her claws caught the base of the tail. Before it could squirm away she gave the killing bite. She picked up the vole and padded back to her mentor. It was a messy kill, but she caught it. Her eyes looked up a Willowpelt, expecting her to tell Sunpaw what she did wrong.

Applesong motioned for Tigerpaw to follow her as she padded to another side of the plains. "What can you smell?" She asked her apprentice, giving the same test that Willowpelt gave Sunpaw. There was a mouse to the left of them and a rabbit to the right. THe rabbit was farther away and harder to detect. She wondered if he would be able to notice them both.
