the soft life of a kittypet wrote:for all intents and purposes (plot/intended kills), this round of mir takes place in the forest territories
moons had passed since arcticwhisper’s exile, and all seemed well in riverclan. no deaths followed the tom’s absence, satisfying everyone. it was already hard enough for riverclan to continue forward after their harsh leaf-bare, and the brutal apprentices’ death only caused for everyone to be more somber. flamingheart particularly had a hard time coping with the murders. they were so senseless and random.
in hopes to get answers, she began to visit arcticwhisper in desperate attempts. except, she never visited alone. pigeonspot accompanied the she-cat each visit, worried for his companion. they often made night visits, slipping out of camp and trekking to the twolegplace to seek answers from their medicine cat-turned-murderer. most nights they had no luck, as arcticwhipser’s bitterness was still strong. flamingheart and pigeonspot felt hopeless, but still continued to visit. their visits to arcticwhisper slowly turned to general visits to the twolegplace to chow down on kittypet food and mingle. the kittypet was easier.
riverclan’s hitman kept watch most nights, noticing the pair take off routinely. they began to follow the pair, watching as their clanmates turn to the soft life of a kittypet. they watched with disgust, bitter and angry once more they were witnessing the warrior code being broken so carelessly. one night, they stopped flamingheart and pigeonspot from leaving.
“i know where you’re going,” they said, blocking the two from leaving. flamingheart and pigeonspot exchanged nervous glances, unsure which part of their nightly visits was the worst offence. the murderer had to be careful about what they said next. “i know you’ve been seeing arcticwhipser,” they continued, “i know it hasn’t been easy for you, flamingheart.”
“come. let’s talk back somewhere more private,” they said, flicking their tail towards the forest as they stepped away from camp. “let’s discuss what happens next. after all, you two have been up to no good.” the trio silently slipped into the woods, making their way to the river, each anxious in their own way.
“i suppose i could have you two exiled. that way you won’t have to have a paw in both worlds- you can live the life you want.” flamingheart and pigeonspot remained in nervous silence, nodding as they listened. “or i can let you off with a warning.” they paused, looking at flamingheart and pigeonspot with intent.
the statement was almost too good to be true. “what do you mean?” flamingheart asked, glancing towards pigeonspot. “like, if we stop you won’t say anything? would you really?” her voice sounded eager, relieved she wouldn’t have to face the consequences of her actions.
the killer nodded. “to be frank i am disgusted by your traitorous actions. but you can redeem yourselves,” they spoke coldly. “i don’t know how. but you will. i’ve been keeping an eye on you and will continue to do so. i’ll know if and when you do this again.” both the cats nodded in understanding. however, that did not erase the nagging anxiety in either’s bellies.
“how do we know you won’t eventually snitch anyways?” pigeonspot finally spoke up, eyeing their extorter. “why do you care so much, anyways? it’s not like we’re avoiding our duties as warriors. we’re just fine,” he said, standing his ground. “shouldn’t i get a pass for this? you should understand me on this,” he asked. this was much to their other’s displeasure.
annoyed and flushed, they responded, “it’s the code. that’s that. if you want to be like that, fine. just wait,” they growled, flexing their claws. “why don’t we just head back to camp before this escalates, hmm?” they said, turning around to make their way back to camp in frustration. they thought they could curb the two cats’ behavior before it became a real problem for riverclan, and saw that their intervention did no good. it was now in their paws to get rid of these traitors. as they made their way back to camp, tension hung heavy in the group.
when they arrived, it was quiet and peaceful. flamingheart and pigeonspot began to make their way towards the warriors’ den before their third companion stopped, calling out softly, “i can tell we’re all a bit tense and at unease right now. how about i grab us some poppyseeds from the medicine cat den?” they offered, stepping to the side and making their way before either could respond. they silently slipped into the den, gathering a pawful of foxglove seeds. they re-emerged, and gave both flamingheart and pigeonspot enough.
“err- thanks,” flamingheart said, dipping her head to lap up the seeds. pigeonspot followed suit and the two bid their third goodnight and slipped into their nests. they followed and watched as the two quickly began to stiffen as the foxglove began to paralyze the duo. they could smell the fear and panic from the pair as they were helpless in their situation. their killer knew they’d soon fall into comas if not die right away. satisfied, they slipped into their own nest for the night.
riverclan, that’s your second pair! your killer is good at this game. can you beat them?
