"Your bias blinds you," Tigerblaze told him simply. His tone was calm as he went on. "You make assumptions based on your favoritism and preconceived notions, and it's not very becoming of the clan's deputy. You weren't there, were you? Are you so quick to let your familial relations cloud your judgment? Who are you to call this my mess when your cousin was the one who approached me and started yowling at me, insisting that I must listen to her, after I politely declined a conversation with her? Am I obligated to speak to a cat I don't wish to speak to? Or are her desires the only ones that matter? If the tables were turned and I did that to her, I'd be accused of harassment and you'd still be on her side. But then, you always are." His expression was unreadable as he padded away. "I wouldn't worry about Mistflower. She's got it good, with a whole clan and then some on her side. I've never been so lucky."
"I kind of hope I get a challenge for mine," Splashpaw admitted. "I think a rowdy, energetic little tom or she-cat that I would have to keep an eye on all the time and try to keep out of trouble could be fine. But honestly I'd be happy with any apprentice I got."
Southstar's gaze flicked to Blizzardclaw, then back to Mistflower. "Tell me after the gathering," he told her, nuzzling her gently before making his way over to the OakClan deputy, who had seemingly just finished speaking to Tigerblaze. "Are you ready to begin, Blizzardclaw?"
Darkpaw looked surprised. "Seven moons, then? You're just a moon younger than me. You're pretty big, for such a young tom." He sounded more impressed than critical. His gaze flicked to Bearpaw. Thinking she was just trying to make OakClan apprentices sound good, he replied, "Oh, all kinds. Our training progresses pretty quickly too--by the time we're seven moons we're sent out by ourselves to chase off foxes and badgers that have strayed into our territory. We also have to climb to the very top of trees and then jump from tree to tree. We're called EagleClan for a reason. We practically fly."
"Yeah, I guess you're right," Littleflower murmured. She felt a bit bad for Mistflower nonetheless. The she-cat had probably wanted some kind of closure and just grown frustrated with her former mentor, but at the same time, one needed to know when to stop. Mistflower was more of an emotional cat, whereas Tigerblaze seemed just the opposite. "Hey, maybe you could go mingle with Tigerblaze, try to find out what happened? But you know, be subtle. And put in a good word for me if you get the chance." She winked at him.
