Nobody ever thinks the ones closest to them
is going to be the one to take your life.
However, its more likely those people, those you
trust the most, that are going to kill you.
How do you know you're ever truly safe?

The killer shook their mind clear, leaving
just enough time to see a clanmate in front
of them. Nodding their head, they gave a
"yes, of course." before getting up and
padding away. The sun had begun to set, and
most cats were coming back to settle in for
the night. As they all shared about their
days, you could hear some of their
conversations.

"You havent heard about Wolfstar yet??"
"No?"
"Now dont tell him but i heard he--"

The killer ignored the rest of the cats'
conversations. They made their way out
of camp, to a predetermined spot. Heavy
rains had made part of the river dangerous,
even the warriors were told to avoid that
particular spot. Settling down near by,
the killer waited. Somebody would need them
eventually.

After a while, someone did come. Dipperstrike
came through, nearly invisible against the
black sky, calling for the killer. "[REDACTED],
[REDACTED], where are you? [ANONYMOUS] needs to
see you!" She stood near the edge of the
river, looking around slightly worried just
incase a terrible accident happened. While her
back was turned, the killer threw their body
into her backside. Perhaps it may have been a bit
much, but when committing homicide, one cannot
fall short.

The killer found themself almost jumping into
the water themself, however narrowly avoided
meeting the same fate as her by kicking off
of their once-clanmate. They still had to
struggle to safety, however they did come out
fine. Dipperstrike quickly ran out of energy,
sinking into their watery grave below.

licking themself to help their fur along.
their heart was pounding so hard they could
feel it in their ears, however they needed to
stay calm or else it would be for nothing.
They retuned to camp, and slept like nothing
happened.

Morning came, and the warrior's body had
been found floating on the water's surface,
bloated and cold. It didnt take long before
the rumors started.

"Have you heard? theres been a murder!"
"How do you know it wasnt an accident?"
"Theres two claw marks on the body, and
fur on the shore."

"Oh have you seen the fur? I have.

Wolfstar couldn't believe what he was hearing. That morning, he woke up excited to begin the day seeing as they were approaching the time of year when fish was most plentiful. A promising day of hunting quickly turned into horror as Dipperstrike's body was dragged into damp, dripping wet and reeking of foul play. Now the clan was in controlled chaos as cats paired off to whisper or went to wake up the clanmates who hadn't woken up yet. Got his part, Wolfstar had not moved from Dippperstrike's side. His paws seemed rooted to the spot while his mind ran away, trying to rationalize just what was going on in his clan. And even more important, trying to profile the murderer he now found himself hunting.

The morning had begun calm and usual as the lanky tom made his way towards the nursery. Planning as always to check on Ravenwillow and the kits before Daydream's instruction for the day. What he hadn't been expecting was the morning patrol returning with a body. Dipperstrike had been fine just the night before. Enjoying a meal with clanmates without a hint at what would be her future fate. Spiderpaw felt his legs grow week as he watched Wolfstar stand solemnly over the still form of the fallen warrior.

Glancing over to see movement from the nursury he knew they didn't need to see their clanmate like this. Until he and Daydream could make her presentable at least. Peaking his head in Spiderpaw knew there was no way he didn't look shaken to his core "Good morning." Herding the kits closer to the queen he turned completely to her view, body visibly trembling. "It's probably best to stay in here for now. Dipper..... Dipperstrike was found by morning patrol. They think she's been murdered."

Whitecall shook himself awake as he usually did and padded out into camp. He was going to go ask Daydream and his apprentice how they were doing (it was his usual way of starting the day, plus he had to get his leg checked every morning until it healed), but something caught his eye, and he turned to investigate.
It was Wolfstar, sitting over a body of all things. Whitecall hurried over as fast as his limp would allow.
"Wolfstar!" he called. "What went wrong?"
He glanced down at the body. Dipperstrike. That was too bad. She had been a fine warrior.

Wolfstar first dipped his head to his deputy in greeting before replying. "The morning patrol found her body in the river. It seems like she was attacked and then drowned." He said solemnly, glancing at the claw marks running down Dipperstrike's flank. He took a deep breath. "I should have Daydream examine her to see if we can pinpoint any clues." Wolfstar meowed, watching Spiderpaw disappear quickly into the nursery. His mood deflated even more at the thought of the kits and even the apprentices having to witness such a scene. Of course, they could not live a warrior's life without knowing bloodshed but that was in battle. Grieving over clan mates killed by foreign warriors gave them a sense of honor, but being killed by someone within the clan was an entirely different scenario.
