Hidden within the nursery Brookkit trembled in fear, this wasn't right. Why would clanmates killer each other and what kept him from being next?! Exiles had done little to stop the quickly rising death toll.

Galecloud nosed Brookkit. "It'll be okay," she mewed softly in an attempt to comfort her son. She hated this. Her clan was supposed to be happy and healthy and perfect. But now it was terrifying and suspicious and unsafe for her kits.

Pikestream had been very calm about the exiling.
The elder didn't seem to notice that she was getting
voted, not until Galecloud called her name out.
She turned hurt eyes to the queen, who just flinched
away with her kits held close to her fur.
But, she understood her fate. She would leave
RiverClan, under one condition. 'Once this is all over,'
she mewed thickly. 'Once this is all over, I want some
cat to tell me.' Then, she began to walk.
'Pikestream!' Lilypool rushed over. 'You cannot go.
You're too...'
Pikestream laughed throatily. 'Old? Yes, I know.
I'll miss how patient you were with me and my
stories, and I'll miss your stories, but RiverClan
needs you.'
Impatiently, Lilypool shook her head. 'They have
Breezefire. You need me more. Come, let's go for
a walk.'
In silence, the elder and medicine cat exited camp,
and later found refuge in a barn where they stayed.

loyal medicine cat!

'... I now give you your warrior name, Beavertail
and Sneezecloud!' Gingerstar announced, looking
down proudly at the two new warriors. They
beamed, chests puffed out as the Clan called
their names. 'Beavertail, Sneezecloud!'
The murderer seemed repelled by the two
new warriors, and did not make a return until
one moon later.
'Gingerstar?' they called, shuffling outside of
the leaders den. 'Gingerstar.' they repeated,
narrowing their eyes a little.
Gingerstar groggily poked her head out of the
den, watching the new arrival cautiously.
'What is it?' she asked, blinking at the night
sky.
'I've got something to tell you. But I need you
to come with me.'
Gingerstar became suspicious. 'What is it?
Tell me here.'
'No, I need to tell you somewhere else.'
Her gaze deepened. 'Why?'
'It's important!' they replied, impatiently.
'I need you to come with me!'
Gingerstar rolled her eyes, relenting.
The killer puffed up their chest just a little.
They'd managed to get the leader to follow
them!
Shaking their head, they lead the way. The
two cats walked in silence until they reached
the gorge. The killer's proud and calm
demeanor dissipated. Taking a deep breath,
they began. 'It was my fault.'
'What was?'
'All these deaths. They were my fault.'
'What?' Gingerstar's voice became higher
with shock and anger. With a yowl of rage,
she leaped at the killer, claws outstretched.
The killer reared up to meet her, but lost
their balance, tumbling backwards into the
gorge. They managed to latch onto the edge,
shaking their back legs furiously to shake
the leader off. With a desperate cry,
Gingerstar fell. The killer hauled themselves
up and padded home.
Gingerstar is dead! Lynxtooth is named the
new leader once Gingerstar's body is found, and
Antnose becomes the new deputy.
