ＲＩＶＥＲＣＬＡＮ

Darkstar had mourned his son for days after
the discovery of his body. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that he had died
in strange circumstances. But they still did not believe they were cursed.

The cursed had been filled with regret the moment they left Fernspark to drown.
they couldn't admit that they were there when he died, but no one thought to look
in their direction anyway.

So, there was no voting. Fernspark had drowned. But the circumstances of his body
were strange. Daydream had given the idea that perhaps he had been dragged by a
fox and left there. There was no scent of anything on his body, however... No one
could understand how he ended up there. The bite mark was too cat-like. Did a
Riverclan cat do this?

Suspicion ran through the camp but no one said anything. No one brought it up.

It was a quiet evening in Riverclan.
Gullpaw had taken a short nap at the base of a tree near camp after his
training that day with Bearsong. The small tom shook out his fur as he awoke,
stretching his paws as his ear flicks. A drop of rain hits his nose, making him
sneeze in confusion. Glancing around, he looks up at the dark cloud covered
sky.

A single cat makes their way out of camp, speeding up to track Gullpaw down.
"Gullpaw," they meow, approaching the tom as the rain begins to pour. "It's
time to head back into camp. I was told to come get you." A flash of light
and thunder made Gullpaw jump, his fur standing on end. The cursed cat
looked up at the sky in fear before rushing over to the small tom and grabbing
his scruff to push him towards the camp entrance. "Let's go!" they meow,
letting Gullpaw go ahead of them as they enter camp. The rest of Riverclan
had huddled into their dens, avoiding the sudden rain that began to fall.

The cursed, in fact, had not been told to get Gullpaw. In truth, they had heard
that they were to find him; but in reality, it was a whisper from the dark forest
that had told them to. They thought they
had been as they rushed back to the den they sleep in. They thought Gullpaw
had done the same, but as they looked out from their den entrance and into camp,
the saw the small tom staring up at the sky, blinking with haste as rain poured
around him.

One of the warriors noticed Gullpaw out in the open, and their meow was loud
in the cursed cat's ears. "GULLPAW! GET INSIDE!"

But it was too late.

A flash of light split the darkness, and as thunder boomed the loud cracking noise
from above could not be heard from the small tom. A large branch that had hovered
over the camp for hundreds of moons caught alight and snapped- in a fury of sticks,
the large branch collapsed upon Gullpaw. The small tom let out a single terrified screech
before falling silent, killed upon impact.

Cats flooded out of their dens, rushing to scratch at the branches in an attempt to free him.
The fire had already been put out by the rain, and eventually, the cats retreated, realizing
Gullpaw's fate. Bearsong, however, did not stop his efforts to save the tom. He scratched
and clawed his way through, screaming and crying the entire time. Gullpaw was his apprentice,
like a son to him. He couldn't let him die. He couldn't.

Eventually he grabbed Gullpaw's scruff and pulled him out. With a huff, he began licking Gullpaw's
fur in an attempt to revive him. "Come on Gull, come on. You're okay, you're okay!" he began to cry,
pushing his nose into the small tom's fur. "Daydream! Please you have to help him!" he cried out,
refusing to move from the tom's body.

Daydream watched in horror, his tail drooping. "Bearsong, he's..." he tried to speak, but Bearsong
only let out a yowl of anguish. He knew that Gullpaw was in Starclan now.

Cranepaw laid quietly, letting the rain fell on her white pelt. Trying to warp her mind around what happned, the apprintce looked around and flicked her tail. Wonder if I can go talk with Honeypaw, she thought, wondering how her sister's training was going. Getting to her paws, she walked carefully over to the medicine cat den. "Honeypaw?" she called out, not wanting to startle her sibling.
