Torka suddenly stopped fighting invisible demons, concocted by his imagination, and looked in the howls direction. He lifted his head and smiled. "Maybe... Maybe Anwells leaving won't be so bad, so hard." He thought, happily panting down in Anwells direction. Then, his grin fell from his face. He'd forgotten the promise. He looked about himself, then looked up to the sky. "Shoot! I need a cover for the howling!" He leaned down, into a play bow, and started yiiping like a coyote, making a racket. He threw himself around and howled, wooping into the shadows, teasing the demons until he heard a twig snap.
He looked into the shadows and watched as a squirrel leapt from the depths of the black cavern. Torka lifted his head and grinned. "You aren't so sca-" Then a thin line of shadow launched forward and dragged the screaming squirrel backward. Torka stared for a moment, then whined as he saw glittering yellow eyes in the shadows, and the foul copper stench of blood hit his nose. He lost control of his legs and sat on his haunches, fur bristled.
It took a show of the squirrels mutilated remains to get Torka running. He literally fell down from the mound of rocks, landing on his paws by a stroke of goodluck, and looked up just in time to see the demons smile erupt from the shadows and give off the shine of many shark-like teeth. Torka growled and barked up at the demon; "Im not afraid of you!" He lied, bravely walking half way up the rocks until he saw the shadow looming and looked up at the demon.
The demon was only a fox, but it was enough to turn Torka into a full blown adult demon wolf. He could kill his entire pack, destory the next generation, mutilate the alpha and rip off the heads of the female wolves, if he was bitten. He watched as the fox tilted its head. Torka had only just turned one, and hadn't seen much of the world, so couldn't help but cringe when the fox's head split and gave way to a massive hole in its neck that had teeth protruding from every piece of flesh on it. 'You aren't afraiiiiid~!' It sang, and Torka tilted his head as he realised that the gaping wound was actually a mouth. 'You aren't afraiiiiid!' it repeated, then added, with a horrible snap and twist of its deformed head. "So, little male... who is afraid of the big bad wolf?" The fox let out a booming laugh and Torka whined.
But then he perked his ears, raised his tail and leapt up a boulder closer to the fox. "NOT me." He said defiantly, his hackles bristed. He was frowning, his teeth clenched. "I am not afraid of the big bad wolf, nor the small pathetic fox." He growled, though a pit formed in his stomach when the fox's smile vanished and was replaced by a snarl."Pathetic. Fox. How dare you?! I should tear that scrawny hide from your bones right this minute." The fox's head cocked to the side, as if listening to a whisper. "Alas, I cannot. If we meet again, little male, I will murder you slowly; you will cry for the mother you lack and the father you wish you had. You will moan and groan as I leave you for the vultures to slowly devour while alive, never again will you call a demon pathetic." He vowed, and Torka gulped as the fox dissapeared.
His hackles stayed raised, and he decided that moving a little closer to the alphas position would be better. He sat atop a grassy hill some 40 metres away, head on his paws. He wished he wasn't on an assignment, and he wished he was smaller; he could cuddle under Toko's fur and hide from the nightmare that was reality.
"Sometimes," He told the Sun, though it was nowhere to be seen. "Sometimes, I wish you had never let Death trick you." He felt a chill of wind bite at his tail, and folded it in. "And sometimes," He mumbled. "I wish Death would die his own painful death and leave us all alone." And with that, he shut his eyes and fell into a light sleep; He would wake up if anyone came near.
[ Sorry about that dramatic post ^^; I got bored. ]
┌────────────────────┐
you took me into your arms
you taught me to smile, be brave
you were my teacher, my lover, my life
but one day, you shot me down
and i never got back up
