His eyes widened in surprise when Mountainshade came over to talk to him. His sleep filled brain hadn't really recognised the approach of the other cat, leading to his surprise. "Morning Mountainshade." He greeted the other tom. "How are you today? Think you're up to leading a border patrol? Maybe take Blueblaze and Palenose with you." He asked. While he personally wanted to lead a hunting patrol, the clan still needed a border patrol and Mountainshade was a perfect cat for the job, especially with his height to give him an advantage in scaring way cats that are to close to the border.
"Oh, good morning Whiteflame, Spottedpaw. I was actually planning on leading a hunting patrol and wondered if you would join me." He replied to Whiteflame's offer, hoping that they wouldn't mind.

When all the moss was removed from her pelt, she arched her back and exited the den. Her gaze flickered over to where the clan deputy was talking to Mountainshade and wondered what they were talking about. A grumble from her stomach interrupted her thought and she decided to take something small from the fresh kill pile. A mouse that had been caught yesterday filled her criteria and she picked it up and took it to a sunny part of camp to enjoy her meal.

She heard the tell tale sign of a nearby bird, a sparrow by the sound of it, and stalked towards it. She really hoped her mentor was watching since the opportunity before her was almost too perfect. The sparrow was about a fox-length in front of her trying to pull a worm out of the ground. Even the wind seemed to be on her side, blowing the scent of the bird towards her so her prey didn't know what was coming. She stalked closer, not wanting to miss this chance because she jumped too short. When she was almost atop the bird, she pounced and quickly killing it and giving her thanks to Starclan soon after. With the sparrow in her jaws, she looked around for her mentor despite knowing she wouldn't see her before trotting off towards where the stream where she was bound to find more prey and eventually catch a fish.

"While I don't have a preference, Duskpaw is a little behind in battle training. She's too caring for her own good." She mused, thinking of her apprentice. Though while she thought Duskpaw lack a little in fighing, she believes that Duskpaw is already becoming a great hunter due to her quieter nature. Maybe if she could bring that out in battle training, Duskpaw could become amazing at ambushes. Only the future could really tell at this point with her apprentice. Either way, she's proud of Duskpaw and knows she'll become an amazing warrior when she's ready.

The den had felt too small for him this morning and he had hastily exited the den, not bothered that his pelt looked a little messy. While he wasn't necessarily a large cat, he was occasionally a restless sleeper when he dreamed of his mother and her passing. She was a good mother to him and his siblings, he just wished that their father could have been the same. It was unfortunate that not everyone liked their assigned mate, but that was just how things were in the clan.

He smiled gratefully at Dawnclaw and quickly began to work running his tongue over his wet back paws. The water was rather cold and it sent chills up his hind legs and tongue. Thankfully it mostly seemed to have stayed on the outer parts of his paws rather than sinking in meaning that it wasn't too difficult to clean off. Soon enough his back paws were clean, still a little cold but it didn't matter too much as he turned his attention back to Dawnclaw. "Shall we?"
