Light filtered into the leaders den, landing on the fluffy brown pelt of Deerstar. He was only half awake when a shriek echoed through the Riverclan camp. The tom hopped to his paws, awake and alert as he rushed out of his den. He looked around the clearing as he padded. "What happened?" He meowed urgently, trying to hide his anxiety. He noticed a few warriors were missing out of camp which made his anxiety grow.

Blackpaw heard a piercing scream. She jumped up from her slumber. "What was that?" she muttered to herself. She got up and cautiously walked outside of the den. Blackpaw went outside of the camp to investigate the noise. She kept on looking for the source of the scream, and she caught the scent of Whiteleaf. "Whiteleaf?" she called. Blackpaw walked over to where the cat was and she saw the bodies of the two cats. "What happened to them?!" She shrieked. "Who would hurt our clanmates?"
