Wolfpaw remained silent afterwards. She kept up with Birchheart's strides with rare struggle. The colder, darker part of the forest was fairly damp, like it had just rained. She couldn't smell a river, and while she hadn't seen one since the loss of her siblings and mentor, she clearly remembered what they looked like.

He took long strides and looked over at wolfpaw ocasionally
He looked around it was getting darker as the went a sent came up... He slid to a stop he couldnt figure out what it was even though it was so familiar yet not at the same time...

Birchhearts eyes shot open.. It was a fox with kits! He got low "there is a fox near us and it has kits with it" he mumbled

Wolfpaw didn't mind the silence. It was actually comforting, untill the warrior tensed. Hearing his whisper, she tensed as well; now what?

Wolfpaw looked at him in courage.
"We can do this." She murmured. She wasn't leaving Duskpaw, Tigerclaw, or any of her friends any time soon.

Birchheart thought "ok ok if we lead them deeper into the forest they wont go near our camp so lets try this, you climb the tree and tell me where they are exactly so when you do i will lead them away by letting them chase me. I know it sounds mouse brained but we have to try, so i will lose them and get back asap dont let them see you and stay down wind " he said in a brave voice

Climb a tree? With her healing paw?
"Ok. Good luck." Wolfpaw quietly snuck to a tree and slowly dug her paws in and began to slowly make it up to a branch. Her leg hurt intensly from the pressure on it, but when she laid down in stealth on the branch, she could see the fox. It's stench was horrible, and she pointed to it for Birchheart.
'There!' she mouthed.

He nodded and looked down "come on come on now!" he pushed himself to go, he went full spead zooming right past the fox and her kits getting their attention; the mother chased after soon followed by her kits. Birchheart ran and ran futher and futher it got darker as he went deeper. The fox tried to nip at his hind legs but only nipped his tail. There were fallen trees ahead and he jumpped on one then kept climbing, the mother fox and her kits followed one of the kits fell into a gap and started to yip for help; the mother went after him and birchheart turned and scratched its face with a hiss and the mother heard her kit and went to get it. Birchheart kept going and soon was able to over lap them and go around without them noticing. He soon made it back to wolfpaw he was safe now only his tail was a bit hurt "ok i made it" he panted and sighed then looked up and thanked starclan.

Wolfpaw watched as Birchheart zoomed away. Given she had a minute to move, she scaled down the tree easier than she went off, and bounded away. Wolfpaw had left barely any traces of notice of what direction the apprentice went into; now, she could be alone. Tell herself all those thoughts aloud, scream them to the world and watch it be silent.

In her absence when Birchheart returned, she left the branch empty; she had gone off many lenghts now, where her scent couldn't be found unless she was tracked, and where her silvery pelt couldn't be seen. Wolfpaw slowed down, a good distance between her and the warrior. The She-cat sat on a rock, panting. Her paw hurt, but she didn't mind.
