She sighed as she realized the dream was over. It had been exciting, but then again, it was just a dream. Or was it? In other dreams, she had woken up as soon as she realized she was dreaming. But this time, it was different. She yawned. It felt like she had been up all night?
The next night, she found herself in the meadow again, once more a cat. Blazeclaw padded up to greet her. "If you plan on joining the Clans, I would suggest ThunderClan. They're most willing to accept cats into their Clan." For the rest of the night, he taught her the hunter's crouch, as well as some new vocabulary. In the morning, she woke up exhausted.
Over the next few months, Kitty's cat skills and prowess became more experienced but her grades plunged. Her active nights left her without rest, so she couldn't concentrate during school.
One night, Blazeclaw nodded to her as she trained. "You've done well. You're ready to join ThunderClan now. But of course, you can't do that as a Twoleg."
"So how do I change?"
?Just close your eyes and relax, then think hard of being a cat and of how it feels. It's just the same for turning back, too. Why don't you practice it now?"
Kitty obliged and spent the rest of the night going back and forth. Near the end, she asked Blazeclaw, "So, will I see you in the Clans?"
"No," he replied. "I'm a StarClan cat. That's why I was able to come to you in your dreams."
"So this is goodbye?"
"I'm sorry to say that it is."
"I wish it wasn't..."
"So do I," Blazeclaw purred sadly.
"I...I'll miss you."
"And I'll miss you."
"Well," Kitty swallowed, holding back tears, "goodbye."
"Goodbye."
After that she had written a note to her parents and stuck it on the fridge. She left before they even woke up. She had eventually convinced Redstar to let her join the Clan, and had earned the name Wildheart. It was more fitting than anyone else knew at the time. That had been twelve moons ago. And yet...never, since that last time, had Blazeclaw come to her. She had learned other cats sometimes got visits from StarClan cats, but since that last goodbye she hadn't seen him again.
Tears came to her eyes, thinking of Blazeclaw again, and they fell when she tried to blink them away.
