Secretgrudge did not seem surprised at all as he lifted his head back up.

"You have no confidence what so ever." he pointed out without second thought. He faced her with no means to belittle her, he just wanted to state a fact that must be troubling the she-cat. Trouble and a uncertain deputy is not what they needed right now...Angelsong and Owlscrape seem to want to cause the most of it anyways. So Moonshade needed to stay alert, however, if she constantly acted as if the whole clan was against her she would end up in a bad position. And he didn't want that to happen.

The young deputy's hackles rose and her eyes seemed to glow towards the tom. She instantly felt defiant and angry. No confidence?! She sat with her head lowered and glared at him. "Clearly you don't know me. You shouldn't judge a cat right in front of them like that; especially if you never bother to speak to them until something like this happens to them. All you stupid toms never think to look at me with a second glance and you suddenly want to point out one of my faults? You don't know the life I've lived!" she snarled. Her gaze didn't tear from his. No confidence? Well she certainly had it now; she wasn't afraid to snap back at him. "Have you had your entire kithood stolen from you because your mother was sick the entire time and died without saying goodbye? Did you have to endure watching your own brother get slaughtered in front of you by a badger that was meant for you, not him?! Did you have to see your own father being dragged into camp, dead, from a pointless battle? Or had to go through life alone with no one bothering to notice you or look at you no matter how hard you try to appeal to them?!" she spat.
Moonshade's dark blue, completely shattered eyes were nearly glowing with her grief and rage. She swallowed hard. This was not helping her condition at all. All these bad memories uttered out loud seriously made it feel like the ground was falling from underneath her paws. She breathed heavily, trying to calm down her nerves. Her tail-tip flicked back and forth. She whipped around but only turned the other direction without moving from her spot. She stared back into the clear water, losing all the anger and energy she'd only just felt and her face softened to sad, depressed expression.
Her eyes clouded and she felt a tear running down her cheek. What a great way to celebrate the first day of being deputy. She sniffed quietly and curled her tail around her paws, feeling cold. "What do you want, Secretgrudge?" she nearly whispered, voice cracking. If only her clanmates gave her a chance to act. Then they wouldn't think of her as such a pathetic loser.

The tom kept all comments to himself as the she-cat before him ranted all her woes concerning her life. Secretgrudge remembered some of the events vaguely, most of what occurred was when he had been younger. He had never thought about asking his clan mates for the full details since it was none of his business and he didn't want to seem nosy just for a bit of sad gossip. He watched Moonshades gaze morph from enraged and confident to shattered as she yelled at him.

When she was done and seemed to have calmed down enough to sob out a question he spoke. It was soft, yet cold at the same time.

"No, I have not experienced all of the hardships you have had to go through as you did...But do you feel better now from getting that off your chest?" he asked as he looked down at her expecting something more. If she could show a more agressive side like what she just showed him he doubted anyone would question her as deputy. Inwardly Secretgrudge snorted, ha...look at him, helping someone.

"But I was merley stating my opinion to see if I could get the reaction I wanted out of you...It worked. If you could act more like that I'm sure you'll do just fine leading the clan." Secretgrudge got up to leave, he still wanted to hunt. But before he started to walk away he brushed his tail lightly over Moonshade.

"The past doesn't define us Moonshade...yet, your's is dragging you down..."

Moonshade felt tears starting to drip from her eyes down her soft cheeks; dropping silently into the river. She took in a breath and stopped short when he brushed his tail over her. Her father used to do that to her... She blinked slowly; Secretgrudge's words piercing her like thorns... but somehow in a good way. A good pain. If that made any sense at all.
She didn't move yet, and just said in a quiet, slow voice, "No. I don't feel better. But I feel lighter. All I thought I needed before was love and comfort. But absolutely no one in this clan gave me that- you all gave me the opposite. Now... I understand that that's not what you need to keep moving. It's motivation. Motivation to live; and I've got at least that, if you really think I'm such a small, pathetic cat." She whipped around, not looking angry at all, but just fierce. "If this is the reaction you wanted, then fine. But I'm just saying this now: I was never like this before."
Her beautiful face, dark and unhappy, just stared back at him before he could leave. She flicked one ear, and took a few steps towards the tom, and for some reason stopped a whisker's length away from him. She could feel his breath stirring her cheek fur and she instinctively pressed her pink nose against his, closing her eyes for a few long moments. She just stayed like that. Until she took in a tiny breath and pulled away, blinking sadly at Secretgrudge. But she still stood tall and proud. She didn't know why she pressed against him but she just needed to then.
Moonshade blinked slowly with her huge, intelligent and dark eyes. "Thank you for those...interesting remarks," she whispered, half amusingly. She tried to smile but failed; only it was enough to show him how pretty her actual smiles were. She turned around slowly with a sigh and started to pad away, tail drooping. How will I do this if this is what my clanmates think?

Secretgrudge tensed the moment their noses touched. He did not expect her to do this, but nonetheless stayed in his place as she pulled away. The look in her eyes with mixed was fulled with more life than he had seen in her pretty blue eyes than ever before. When she started to leave he shifted enough to turn to her retreating figure and called out.

"Hey Moonshade...I never said that I disliked you or thought bad of you. And you would be surprised to know there is more than just Silverstar who approves of you as the next leader of Wishclan." he called out to her before he made a bee line in the opposite direction than her and into the forest.

Moonshade paused right when Secretgrudge spoke. She hardly moved a muscle and his words... well.. they weren't what she'd expected. Her whiskers twitched as he finished and she stared at the ground, eyes huge. Did he really mean what he just said? She hardly got any remarks like that that were nearly a compliment.
She turned slowly, about to respond, but blinked a couple of times, watching his tail disappear. For once she didn't want to be left alone. She just stood there, staring at the spot he'd just been standing and didn't move. Her mind felt frazzled.
What had just happened? Did I.. She knit her eyebrows, not exactly knowing what to place whatever it was that had just happened and folded her hind legs back neatly, sitting down slowly as she stared at her paws.

Secretgrudge stalked close to the growing shadows of night was he distracted himself with the potential scent of prey. His mind was still blank...exactly what just happened between the two of them again? All he did was go and try to realize she could be a good deputy as long as she didn't act as if the whole world was against her...and what happens is...why the nose touch? He didn't feel like he should have been thanked so intimately.

.....I'm...confused... he thought to himself.

Spiderfrost thought now was the best time for a walk, Starpaw was asleep and the clan wasn't in dire need. Stretching her limbs she made her way to the river to drink before she went to her usual area she would go to for alone time. Her brows raised when she saw Moonshades form.

"Moonshade, what are you doing sitting there as if your prey was stolen?"

Moonshade flicked one ear, not really swayed by her medicine cat's appearance. She looked at her with expressionless eyes and said quietly, "No reason. Just thinking." She lifted one foreleg and started to groom her dark fur thoughtfully; giving no indication of speaking to someone before this.

Moonshade snorted in amusement. SHe was the best at hiding her emotions when she needed to. "Yea.. He passed by.... Stalking something I guess. Stopped for a drink then went further in the forest. That way-" the dark tabby pointed out with her tail in the direction he'd left her here in.
