She looked at him. "I don't have an apprentice. And I can't teach them all they need to know in 2 moons." She then said more quietly,"I know you put a lot if work into this, and I'm sorry, but my brothers and sisters and father live their. And my leader. I can't leave them to die. I'm sorry. Why can't you come to my clan? I could say they drove you out because they thought you were a kittypet warrior, but you would be loyal to this clan until the very end. I could go in the camp and not leave and three days later you could come in. They wouldn't suspect anything and we could be together, or at least see each other every day." She said, a very hopeful look in her eye.

" I'm sorry, I just can't. Maybe one day this will work out, but for now, I'll just put your nest in the corner. I would love to stay, but theirs just too much tension. Besides, the clans don't need me, they just let me tag along. I love you, and don't ever forget that. I want to be with you, but it won't work. That's all I want," said Shadowfur, picking up the rabbit, and thrusting it towards Mothflight. He put the nest in the corner, tucked the flower behind her ear and said, " Take the rabbit. Say you caught it. Bye my love. Bye my kits, come visit me soon." And with that he laid down, barely suppressing the tears that were welling up in his eyes.

Once he knew no cat was around, he started to cry. But no tears came. Just the sounds of his sobs echoing through the shop. He tried to fall asleep, to no avail.

She got back to camp and fell asleep after giving the kits to their phony mother.

When he woke up, he was on the thunder path. A monster was coming and he was groggy, so he didn't move. It was only when the monster crushed his paw, he moved. He cried out in pain loud enough that Mothflight heard. He ran as quickly as he could back to his nest, and called out Mothflights name.
