((Bahh, I'm working on a book too. xD And I agree, Ash's posts are epic. <3))
~ Halo ~
A smile was now building deep inside Halo's chest, drowning out the pain, the full extent of Canad's words now totally soaked in. He could be with Bandit, her secretly playful voice and rosey hued depths forever in his heart. He could protect her. He could do everything in his power to bring her happiness, and more if she desired. He would be hers, and hers only. As these thoughts rapidly bubbled to the surface, they manifested as a brilliant twinkle in his eyes. Canad was releasing him of the burden. The burden of guilt.
Though he'd accepted this new feeling whole heartedly, the day had most certainly not ended without injury. Oh no. No physical harm had been done to either equid, but many emotional wounds had been jabbed that could not naturally heal. The forever altering of their relationship would be immediate and harsh, the two never looking at each other in quite the same way again. But there was nothing he could do about this now, no turing back. The beginning of the rest of his life had been set into motion in a little under 2 hours, and now he had to deal with the consequences. Thinking about these things was just as hopeless as the event itself, for it would only distract him from the only good to emerge from such tragidy. Her. He gave a greatful smile, dipping his head with a small whinny. "Thank-you my friend, I will pursue her with everything I've got." he responded with a smile, closing his eyes as his nose softly brushed the water's surface. His tail lifted and ears pricked, this was as close to a bow as you would ever see from an equid. His bow of respect.
However, when he lifted his head to return Canads's gaze, the equid was already gone. Out of the river, and onto the plains. He seriously doubted that he'd ever speak to his lead stallion much past reports again. With a heavy sigh, he looked around with desperately searching eyes. Everybody had dissipated, leaving him at the complete and utter mercy of his conflicting emotions. To wallow in both undieing glee and soul crushing shame. He gave a distant chuckle at this realization, his entire body submerged to the shoulders, and began carefully, gingerly waiding his way to shore. And, dispite his best efforts, he did a total nose dive into the rushing water, vanishing with a splash as he struggled to right himself. River rocks, all of them out to get you the instant opportunity strikes. For a brief moment after he managed to resurface, he just stood there and blinked the water from his eyes. Perfect, just what he needed to complete the day. Now, trying to recover from the unseen incident, his legs cut lazily through the lapping waves as he vied to keep a normal posture. He was on a flat, dry stone in a matter of moments.
He needed to find Bandit now, since she was probably a hair past confused, and tell her what had happened. She might even be angry. He shyed away from this thought, his tail giving a fearful lash, but still forced himself into the tall grass. He picked up speed as he went, his flawed gate barely noticable as he teemed with determination, and even managed to scale a small hill. It gave him the perfect view, the view that he needed to find her. And there she was. Standing on yet another hill, he could see her auburn coat glimmer in the fading light, his eyes riveted not only on her, but the dun mare who stood close by. Another mare? He shook his head dubiously, looking back to where Canad was sadly grazing. Though he'd obviousuly just finished shooting Famous down for the 3rd time today, there could be hope for his happiness yet. Since stallions seemed to be finding their soul matches at an astonishing rate in this herd, who knows?
As he stood there, water droplets rolled down his body in a cooling mass, the wind picking up slighty as the individual strands of his mane began to collide. His tail whipped out to the side with a soft whirr as the gust caught him off guard, the coolness causing a brief shutter to ripple across his chest. But this daunted him in the least. He needed to reclaim her attention in a way that would tell her everything was okay, and do so without uttering a single word. In a way that would make her smile, and they could resume where they left off without the effectively mood killing convo of how they'd both scarred Canad for life. In that moment, he heard Livius' appalled voice ring across the valley, a pair of pheasants exploding into the air somewhere nearby, and he glanced back with an arched brow. All was fine, neither he nor Dolce were threatened, so he shrugged off the mild alarm that had gathered in his muscles. Probably personal strife, secrets revealed, yada yada yada. Typical herd drama. And now, zoning everything else out, he was ready.
Arching his neck like that of an arab horse, he gave a gleeful neigh that reached all the way to the highest mountains and then returned. He was smiling like he'd just won a life time supply of dandelion buds, his golden eyes lit up like the sun, and then he did the one thing he'd previously thought impossible. He reared, balanced by only his one good foot, and shook all the water from his pelt. He'd thrown together that idea just before Livius' emotional outburst. The individual droplets showered out around him like a spring storm, refracting the pale light back at him from the setting sun. And then he touched down, injured foot still raised, and gave a huge grin. His chestnut mane and pelt were now so scruffy, so askew, so completely defying the natural grain of his coat, that he looked as though he'd been sucked up by a twister and then spit back out again. If that didn't get her attention, nothing would.
((:U Bahhh! My muse just stuck me in the closet and took over, I have no idea where all this came from... xD))
