Aspenthorn felt his tail flick in annoyance, dipping his head to the pretty medicine cat before continuing the gossip about the loner. "We don't need more loners. I'm sure some of the paws are almost ready to become warriors. And Smokeblossom has been looking bigger and bigger, she is probably expecting kits." He sighed happily daydreaming. "Shadowstrip must be happy, I can't wait to have a mate and kits..." He purred allowing himself to daydream about a life where he and Chickadeeflight are mated and happy with kits. The large tom puffed his chest. "We have plenty of warriors. The last thing we need is more loners who don't know the code, and will just leach off the clan."

A nostalgic grin flashed across the black and white she-cat's maw. ''My siblings and I were first loners when we came to the clan at a young age. I definitely know the warrior code well.'' She looked back towards the loner. ''And the medicine cat code,'' she added solemnly as she thought about kits. ''I'll have to go check on Smokeblossom and see how she's feeling later.'' The she-cat turned her green gaze back towards Aspenthorn. ''I'm sure that if the loner does join he will learn the code well,'' she said reassuringly.

Aspenthorn blushed realizing his slip up. "I didn't mean you... Sorry..." His ears flicked back, the big tom looking apologetic at the medicine cat. "You are a brilliant medicine cat. But I'll never understand how and why the code forces you not to have a mate and kits. Everyone deserves love." The mooning tom sighed, laying his head in his large white paws, watching Chickadeeflight. "Even our healers. Especial them." He shook his head looking over at his clan mate. "I'd be careful. Knowing her she will refuse to stay in the nursery until the last second, and even then she'll fight." He shook his head sighing. "I'm a little jealous. Of her and Shadowstripe..." He looked over at Chickadeeflight sadly, knowing that what his clanmate had he never would. Not with her.

The black and white she-cat's heart broke a little as she listened to him speak. She forced a fake smile onto her face. ''I'm not really sure either, but Starclan knows best.'' The she-cat's whiskers twitched as she listened to what he said about Smokeblossom. ''You're right, she's a tough cat. I'll try to talk to her about heading into the nursery later today.'' Chickadeeflight gritted her teeth. ''I'm sure that you'll have kits and a mate someday. There are plenty of great she-cats in the clan.''

Aspenthorn gently nudged the medicine cat's shoulder with his head purring. "Hey, sorry if I upset you... Even if Starclan knows best, it doesn't seem fair." He settled back blinking slowly, purring as they went back into safe conversation and relaxed. "I'd get her mate to try and help, otherwise she may claw your ears off." He looked away when she talked about how he would have a mate and kits fur suddenly feeling like it was full of ants. The big tom shifted and his sighed shaking his head. "That's sweet, but uh... I like someone, she's. Just. Amazing. But she won't notice a goof like me." He forced a smile purring. "And I have a good friend like you, I'll be fine." Silently he prayed to starclan he wasn't annoying the she cat, seeing her tense and become sad.

She nodded happily at the tom. ''Yeah, I should have Shadowstripe help me talk to her. Thanks for the idea. It'll be easier to convince her if her mate is there saying the same thing.'' The she-cat's mouth gaped in a wide yawn. ''I'm glad to hear that. I'm sure that she'll notice you eventually,'' she murmured obliviously. Her tail tip twitched as she glanced indifferently down at the bundle of herbs that she had gathered.

The black and white she-cat was a little disappointed that the tom wanted to leave. In work or love? But I'm a medicine cat and I have to keep true to my code. Even if I don't think it makes sense. I feel absolutely miserable. But it's worth it when I save a cat's life. ''Well, I probably have to gather some herbs or check on the queens.'' She stood up and shook the dust from her pelt.
