The golden tabby was startled awake by all the commotion, jumping to his paws immediately. After seeing no one else was in the den, he hurried out and toward the cats gathered outside the camp. "Wh-what's going -" he stopped abruptly at the sight of the corpses. Utterly speechless, the tom stared for a moment before turning away from the scene, stomach churning. They couldn't possibly be ... but they were. The Clan had not exiled the true killer and it had cost them two more lives. He frantically glanced around at his Clan-mates. Any one of them could be the murderer.

Fawnslip knew that not the whole clan was against
him. But it certainly felt like it.

The group of cats who had voted to exile him glared
across camp toward the tom, whom the rest of the
clan had moved away from with apprehension.
Even the leader he trusted had agreed that he
should be driven out.

"W-wait! Please, don't make me go... I can help! I
got a dream... from Starclan..." He trailed off, his
face falling as he realized that the others clearly
didn't believe him. And who could blame them?
They thought he had killed loyal warriors; nothing
about that exactly screamed "trustworthy". He
shuffled his paws for a moment, fighting back tears.

He looked over his shoulder at the entrance to
camp for a moment, before looking up to Brairstar,
who was perched on the Highrock. The leader
simply nodded.

With a final gaze back at his previous family,
Fawnslip turned and padded out of Riverclan camp.

Fawnslip paused at Fourtrees, tipping his head
upward to see the tops of the towering oaks that
lay before him. He had come here seeking some
sort of guidance from Starclan- any sign that his
clan would be safe, any sign that he would be
able to return. He moved to sit beneath the Great
Rock, closing his eyes and mumbling a quiet
prayer to his ancestors.

The rogues had a perfect opportunity.

The group of cats, though scraggly and underfed,
outnumbered Fawnslip three to one. As quickly
as he could throw one off, another latched their
claws into his pelt. He took blow after blow,
weakening slowly, until eventually one of the
felines managed to rake their claws down his
underbelly.

He collapsed, jerking violently for a few moments,
and coughing up blood. When he finally ceased
to draw oxygen, the band of rogues turned and
sauntered away, not bothering to move his body.

Riverclan, you've exiled your witness!

Though the season had begun to shift into late spring,
a chilly storm cut through the normally comfortable
night. The rain that fell pattered on the roofs of the
dens, but nearly everyone slept peacefully, tucked
into their warm nests.

One of the two cats awake at this hour was Sunchaser.
He crouched outside of the leader's den, just as he had
done the night before. The air was laden with fog,
and the darkness made it difficult to see much farther
than a few foxlengths away. He kept a careful eye
on the entrance to Briarstar's den, however, remaining
outside despite the weather.

He couldn't hear the sound of the approaching cat's
pawsteps through the rain. Distracted as he was with
protecting his leader, he had no plan with which to
defend himself.

The cat sprung at him, their claws digging into his back.
He quickly whipped his head around to attempt to catch
a glimpse of them, before throwing them off with a low
snarl. Though their pelt reflected little light through the
fog, he could clearly identify who his attacker was.
Unfortunately, he was more focused on the object they
held, clamped in their maw.

It glistened brightly, even in the night. It looked almost
like a piece of ice, but Sunchaser knew that couldn't be
the case. Its edges were jagged, and the sight of the item
only increased the adrenaline that was already pumping
through his veins. If he ran now, there could be time to get
away.

As the tom parted his jaws in the beginning of a call for help,
the killer advanced. They tackled him, just managing to
topple him to the ground and knock the air out of him
midway through his cry. They lowered the sharp object to
his throat, looking him in the eye with a cruel smile.
Sunchaser didn't attempt to move, but instead gave the
murderer a pleading look.

"Why would you do this?" He asked, his voice hoarse.

The cat responded with a swift flick of the object,
slitting the tom's throat.

Sunchaser's eyes widened in his last moments. He went
into a fit of coughing, trying desperately to clear his
airway of blood in order to draw oxygen, but it was
too late. Even the most skilled of medicine cats could
not solve that kind of damage.

While he was still clinging to life, the murderer slowly
dragged him out into the center of camp. They
positioned his body so that it looked as though he was
part of the fresh-kill pile. With a final smirk, they
dropped the shard of glass that had killed him next to
his corpse, and slunk back to their nest.

As Minnowpaw woke up, he went to the warriors den, looking for his mentor, and scanned for his nest. Then, he realized that Sunchaser wasn't there. "Sunchaser?" Minnowpaw was confused. Where was his mentor? He shrugged, deciding that his hunger would be okay for now, and that Sunchaser would come back. Unfortunately, Minnowpaw was wrong. As he neared the fresh kill pile, Minnowpaw got a glimpse of a sharp piece of glass, and curious, padded over to it. Then he realized there was a corpse there. Sunchaser's corpse. Minnowpaw gasped in horror and shock. "Sunchaser!" He cried.
