the long-furred leader sat atop the highledge, look-
ing down at his clan. the sun was lowering in the sky, now
at the horizon. it cast orangeish light over the forest, giv-
ing white cats cream fur.
"cherrystorm!" finchstar shouted, curling his tail around his
forepaws.
cherrystorm's ears pricked as he looked up at the leader,
then expertly hopping up the rocks that led up to the top.
"yes?"
"organize a patrol," finchstar replied, standing up. "and
put me in it."
"uh, okay," the deputy said, returning to the bottom of
the highledge. he arranged a patrol of six cats, including
finchstar, to go along the border with the lake and wind-
clan.
finchstar gave cherrystorm a nod as he led the patrol out
of the thunderclan camp, flicking his furry tail.
finchstar's weird, cherrystorm thought, turning and
trotting into the warrior's den.

the patrol reached the lake. finchstar had split it up; th-
ree cats along windclan's border, and three along the
water. he padded along the sand.
finchstar was standing next to another cat, as the third
had been allowed to gather the poppy seeds that they
had spotted. suddenly, the cat slammed into fi-
nchstar, causing him to stumble into the shallows.
lakewater lapped at the brown and grey tom's feet, his
eyes wide. before he could speak, the other cat launc-
hed themselves at him. but the blow didn't hit finchstar;
the other cat in his patrol had blocked it.
"i'll kill either of you if you tell anyone," the would-be
murderer growled, disguising their voice. they slunk
into the shadows, but finchstar did not know who it
was. then he realized: it was not a cat on his patrol.
the other two stood next to him, hackles raised.
"did you... did you see who it was?" finchstar asked,
sniffing the air. but there was no specific scent, just
thunderclan.
"no," the other two said in unison, staring at their
leader.
frightened, they gathered the rest of the patrol and
returned to camp.

watch out, thunderclan! the murderer has missed,
but they have not been discouraged.

Daisykit shifted in the nursery, having woken up from a nap. Stretching, she yawned tiny teeth showing. Shaking her head, she silent snuck out of the nursery, her eyes searching. "Everything okay?" she asked, as she saw the patrol returned, already knowing something had scared them by their fear scent.

The black and white kit just woke up. Letting out a yawn, he saw Daisykit leave the nursery. She must be out getting prey for her mom.. He thought, following her out the den.

"What's going on?" Shadedkit asked Daisykit, Finchstar, and the rest of the cats present when he left the den and saw that his denmate wasn't going to give her mother prey.

The tom’s blood was cold, he gave a small choke. The tom leapt forward and sat on the high rock”I’ve been attacked.”He mewed loudly, his chest jutting out. ”Thank gosh for my strong warriors! I’m have not deceased.”

morningstep
it was a warm day when the murder occured. morningstep emerged from her den, arching into a stretch, her bones cracking. amusement lit up in the pretty medicine cat's eyes. she was rather young, having only earned her full medicine cat name a few seasons ago, yet age seemed to want to take her quickly. her thoughts flickered to young sparrowpaw, her apprentice. he was full of excitement, and was eager to learn. his eyes seemed to light up every time she taught him a new remedy. he will be a wonderful medicine cat, she thought contentedly. morningstep's gaze flickered over to the highrock, where finchstar stumbled onto the highrock, two other cats accompanying him. they looked hurt. morningstep dashed closer to hear what the leader had to say. "finchstar, are you alright? do i need to fetch herbs for anyone?" her eyes widened in shock.

...Sparrowpaw's ears twitched at the worried mews coming from around the camp. Quickly raising to his paws, he hurried over to his mentor, Morningstep. He paused as a strong fear-scent hit his nose, and stared at the high rock to see Finchstar, looking less worried than any other cat. Reaching Morningstep, he stood behind her, not wanting to get between her and the leader. "What happened?" He asked quietly.

xxxxscorchflame’s pelt bristled at the news, someone tried to kill their leader? what fox-heart would do such a thing? He searched the crowd for guilty for anxious looks- but nothing showed. “Did you see who it was? Who was on the patrol?!” He spat, his gaze shot toward Cherrystorm, accusingly.

"Attacked? Why?" Shadedkit asked his leader. Without Finchstar, there'd be no leader! Why would someone try to harm him? "Why would someone attack you, Finchstar?"

xxxxEmletsflower felt groggy that evening, which was hardly a surprise, as minding kits - even if they weren't her own - was enormously demanding. It was amazing how they could go from pure bundles of energy to precious sleeping lumps in the space of a few minutes, and just seeing the transformation made Emletsflower a little jealous of her den-mate if she was entirely honest with herself. Despite any protestations to the contrary, those kits were adorable and she was going to treat them as such.
xxxxHer eyes were somewhat bleary as she slowly awoke to the sound of the kits stirring. Taking pre-emptive action, Emletsflower followed a few steps behind Shadedkit as the kits left the den and gathered outside in the clearing, trying to stay far back enough to allow at least some independence (it didn't hurt that that tiny ambition of independence was precious as anything in Emletsflower's eyes). It was still too early after her nap to sort out the fur that had rumpled itself in her sleep.
xxxxEmletsflower's ears flicked nervously at Finchstar's announcement, and she felt something in her stomach drop swiftly like a stone thrown by two-legs across the lake. She sat down nervously, tail around her front paws, wary of any further bad news that might follow. Finchstar's tone certainly made it sound like some worse was bound to follow - and the way the others were talking made it sound like they thought so too.


OoC: I'm just going to assume that the kits are both from the same litter from Daisynose if that's okay? I'm happy to edit details if families are different, but seeing as Shadedkit mentioned a littermate, and Emletsflower would want to be in the nursery even if she hadn't had kits, that feels most appropriate to me.
