Halo

Halo grinned as Shadow attempted the daring stunt, and then bucked exuberantly when Canad skipped a level. "And the deception unfolds!" he laughed in disbelief, nearly tripping over a rock in his current state of awe. He couldn't believe it, Canad of all equids had cheated. He quickly pulled around the corner of the incline, slowly catching up to the equid with an amused snort. Halo was good at taking corners, as had been proved earlier, but not so much at jumping. It was his fatal flaw. He looked out over the land as he ran, able to see the river and mares from the small, snowy cliff. "I think we should stop for a break after we get to the top of that ledge over there." he nickered, close to Canad's flanks now. The ledge was tall, almost a horizontal climb to the top, but it had a nice view. Plus, they'd be safer from predators up there. "Then we can race back to the river." he said with a mischievous smile, the snow flying up behind his pounding hooves.

canad skidded to a stop, smelling something odd. "stop. do you smell that?"

Shadow caught up with the two younger stallions breathing hard. "What?" he asked walking up to Canad and stoping.

Halo skidded to a stop as well, his hooves grinding on the icy rock for a moment as what the stallion said soaked in. He tested the air tentativly, pinching his eyebrows together in consentration. "I don't know... what is that?" he said, trying to keep his voice steady. Since equids didn't have a very good sence of smell to start with, whatever it was had to be close. His leg muscles suddenly flexed for a bolt, the stallion didn't dare stray from the other two. Just because he was a loner didn't mean he was brave to the point of mindless idiocy. That got equids killed on a regular basis. With a small nicker, he began carefully scanning their jagged surroundings for danger.

"hello? " h said, with a small voice. "i dont know..." he whispered to shadow nd halo. he was confused and scared.

I pricked my ears and looked up, the three racing stallions had stopped. I looked, around suddenly worried, everything looked normal... I scented the air. I was able to catch a faint whiff of something strange. What is that? I thought. I've never smelled anything like that before. I looked back up to the stallions, they were wtill just standing there scenting the air. I snorted and walked a little closer to Famous for safety.

Shadow sniffed the air and let out a nicker to Famous warning her. "its no lion thats for sure." Shadow said to the stallions

Famous head shot up and looked around for Heartz instantly. Heartz had also been warned by her fathers nicker and was running to her mother. Famous nickered a hello to Dolce but kept her eyes on the stallions ready to bolt if need be.

Shadow's warning made me jumpy and I inched a little closer to Famous and Heartz, I softly snorted a greeting back to Famous. I looked around checking to see if there was anything moving and to listen for any noise. I tensed as a bush rustled. I turned all my attention on it and a bird flew out and my front leg flinched the start of a bolt but I stopped myself so I didn't spook the others. I snorted angrily at the bird as it flew over my head, chirping happily.

Halo grew more and more tense, backing slowly toward the other equids. As much as he traveled, he'd scented a lot of things, and as the strong smell swirled in his nostrils, it became more and more familiar. He'd came across it a while ago, when he was on the west side of the stream, and it ment danger. Capture. Confinement. But why were they on the east side? Had the other herd been captured? No, that couldn't happen. He wouldn't believe... He nickered a quiet warning, his nostrils flared before he spoke. "They're close, we need to form a circle. We should have eyes on every angle before they appear." he said quietly, keeping his voice down to a low murmur. "I know what that scent belongs to now."

"humans." snorted canad. as lead, it was his duty to protect the herd, but this was unexpected.
