Raccoonheart sat in camp, cleaning his fur. He looked over to the fresh-kill pile and noticed that there were only a few small bodies there. I think it'd be best if I sent out on a hunting patrol. He thought, waiting in camp for the other warriors to wake up.

Hollyleaf yawned and stretched her mucles rippling under her thick fur and her teeth glinting in the sunshine. She padded out of the den and sat down licking her paws bored with herself. She waited for some-cat to approach her and spark conversation with the usually dull she-cat.

She sat at the entrance to her den, getting her first break since what felt like a moon. The clan was well cared for, and her mentor wasn't badgering her at the moment, so she padded off towards the fresh kill pile to pick out a small shrew from the few morsels left.

The silvery warrior watched as her younger sister picked over the measly pile of food, and decided she'd hunt. But maybe it was best if she took some cats with her? She approached the deputy. "Raccoonheart, I noticed the fresh kill pile was low, may I lead a hunting patrol by the stream?"

"Sure. I'll be going with you." Raccoonheart said, then looked over at Hollyleaf. The she-cat was cleaning herself in a sunny spot in camp. "Hey, Hollyleaf. If you aren't doing anything, would you like to hunt with us?" The tom asked. He wished there were more cats to take along on the patrol, but most were still asleep, already out of camp, or doing something.

Wavewhisker trotted up to Raccoonheart, head held high.
"Can I be on the hunting patrol, Raccoonheart?"
Wavewhisker's tail was moving about playfully, she hopefully awaited his answer.
I can't stay in this camp all day like an elder or kit, I need something to do.
I need to be a warrior. Wavewhisker hoped that Raccoonheart would accept her,
even though she hadn't been specifically invited.

Raccoonheart's eyes lit up when he saw Wavewhisker. He was glad the she-cat woke up, now the hunting patrol would feel proper. "Why not? The more the merrier." The tom said.

Wavewhisper hoped to catch herself a rabbit, or at least a hare.
She decided to make small-talk with Racconheart, it would pass the time.
"So, how are you doing these days, deputy?"

"Great! I'm still surprised that Streamstar chose me to become her deputy." Raccoonheart purred. He believed that his past actions and personality would make it difficult for him to become deputy, but it looks like he's proven himself.

Wavewhisker chuckled,
"You'll get used to it soon enough, mouse-brain."
She hoped he didn't think she was being rude, she was being friendly.
Wavewhisker playfully batted Raccoonheart's ear.
"So, deputy, you told old to playfight?"
She knew his past had been a little, well, not exactly tragic, but
complicated. She was in battle stance, her claws were sheathed
and she was ready to fight.

Raccoonheart let out a mischievous grin and got into a fighting position. "I'll never be too old to play fight." He meowed, then batted at Wavewhisker's ears. He was glad Wavewhisker didn't think of him differently just because he became the deputy. No matter what, he'd enjoy wrestling like a kit, and no rank would change that.
