Rancor's fiery red eyes blazed within the shadows of the trees, his large size not hindering his slinky movement as he silently extended himself along a branch. The sounds of talking pokemon traveled up into the air, not escaping his notice. His predator-like eyes skimmed the ground below, falling upon what looked to be the shape of a Persian, fit with experience, and a small blue pokemon beside it. It looked to be something like a vulpix, but the color was like nothing he had seen before. How strange.
They both looked to be peacefully napping, although he couldn't tell from this distance. A glow of pride and recklessness filled him, and he let his gaze once again fall upon the persian. He was well-conditioned from seasons of battles. But against a elite-four victor, the battle was sure to be short. Rancor longed for the days of harsh training, breathless battles and well-earned victories. And surely, an intruder on his territory was a likely cause.
Without any hesitation, he released his clawed grip on the branch, releasing an ear-splitting cry as he lurched from the branch with wings outspread. He landed a few yards in front of the pair, smoke billowing from his nostrils.
It was as if he had escaped their nightmares, and had manifested in time for them to wake.
