changing vote to owlclaw
The Exile wrote:The morning dew was still fresh on the plants outside of the Riverclan camp when Snowstar made her decision. In front of her lay the still corpse of her former warrior, Snowberry, who was murdered. Around her every cat was talking, some frightened, others angry, and one in particular was faking their sorrow.
As Snowstar rose her tail for silence, the gazes of her warriors fell upon her. Darkmoon, who stood near the nursery, shushed the two kits who sat at the entrance, trying to block their view of the corpse.
“Warriors and Apprentices of Riverclan!” The leader called, her voice full of sorrow and anger. “I have called this meeting to-” She took in a sharp breath, hissing her next few words. “-find the fox-heart who did this.”.
There was another silence, followed by Snowstar getting to her paws. The deputy, Swiftfoot, stood at her side.
“It is not my right to choose who to exile.” Snowstar mewed, her eyes narrowed with fury. “It is yours.”
Instantly cats began to yowl out their answers, randomly choosing cats to exile.
“It was Cloverface!” Yelled Frondpaw, who joined into the name calling. “Darkmoon!” Lillykit called from the nursery, causing the young tom to look distraught as he was sitting right next to her. The name calling continued until Snowstar’s voice rang above them all.
“SILENCE!” She yelled, causing the warriors to look in her direction. “This is no time to babble amongst yourselves! We are looking for a murderer!”.
Riverclan fell into silence once more, each cat looking guilty for calling their comrades names with no decisive evidence. One mew quickly broke that silence.
“Owlclaw. I believe it was Owlclaw.” Cloverface stood, gazing to the tom who looked heartbroken by the accusation. Cloverface turned and looked to his leader, eyes stern. Darkmoon and Moonpaw stood following this, mewing “I agree”.
Not a single cat stood to defend Owlclaw, and the tom’s ears folded back on his head. Did they really think he did this? There were tears in his eyes.
Snowstar then focused her gaze on the dark pelted tom, voice unwavering.
“Do we all agree that it was Owlclaw?”
The other cats nodded hesitantly.
Owlclaw attempted to speak over the other cats, gaze rested on the tom who had first accused him. “Cloverface I- I lov-”
Snowstar interrupted him with a sharp hiss.
“Never step foot on my territory ever again Owlclaw, or I will personally lead you to the Dark Forest!”
With that, Owlclaw ran from the camp, heartbroken by Cloverface’s betrayal, and even more heartbroken that his clan did not trust him after all the love he had given.
As the clan was distracted by Snowstar, another cat slipped out of camp.
----
Owlclaw stood by the river’s edge, tears streaming down his face. He turned sharply as he heard a cat approaching.
“L-Look- I was just leaving I-”
“It’s alright. SnowStar sent me to escort you.” The killer’s kind sounding mew caught Owlclaw off guard, and he let his guard down. This was a lie.
The killer made their way over to the tom, sitting down next to him.
“I know what it’s like to feel heartbroken.” They began, meeting Owlclaw’s gaze. “What true pain feels like.”
Owlclaw gazed into the rushing river, tears still falling, as he listened to the killer speak.
“I wanted to free myself from that pain. And I will, soon enough.” The killer smiled, and turned to look at Owlclaw.
“And I’ll relieve you of your pain as well!” The killer began chuckling, getting to their paws and knocking Owlclaw onto his back.
The clumsy tom didn’t have enough time to fight back as the killer placed their claws to his throat.
“My mistake with Snowberry was that I wanted her to have the easy way out. How stupid of me, right?!” They laughed, digging their claws in deeper. “But, there really is no easy way out. To get rid of pain, you must endure it first.” The killer smiled, eyes wide and dark. “Hope to see you in Starclan, my friend!”.
The killer then snapped the sobbing tom’s neck, and threw his body into the river, where it was never seen again.
You exiled an innocent cat Riverclan!
Watch out Riverclan, a killer is still among your ranks!
The Kill wrote:It has been a moon since Snowberry was killed. Leaf-Fall had been slowly becoming Leaf-bare, but the chill cold air of the long dreaded season was already apparent.
The sun was just setting as Featherpaw made her way out of camp, alone, back to the place where Snowberry had been murdered. The guilt in her heart was too much for her to handle, and she burst into tears.
The young she had seen something that day, had witnessed what had happened, but said and did nothing. She felt terrible about it, knowing she had let Snowberry down. The small she made her way to the clearing where SnowBerry had been, during her last few breaths.
“I’m so s-sorry-” Featherpaw stuttered, her green eyes clouded with guilt. “It’s my fault. I’m not good enough I’m- I’m never good enough!” She sobbed, collapsing to the ground in tears. The poor she hadn’t noticed that another cat was watching her from the brush, their shadowed figure unapparent in the dimming light.
As she lay, broken, the cat made their way from the thicket and into the open.
“It’s getting Dark, why aren’t you in camp?” The soft voice made Featherpaw jump in shy embarrassment, tears still falling.
“Im-Im so sorry- I’ll head back- Please don’t get me in trouble I-”
“It’s alright.” There was a purr in the killer’s voice, and their tail met her shoulder. Featherpaw shuffled her paws, the shy she still crying.
“Are you sad because of her death?”
The she looked away, then down at her paws. “I-I.. I saw what happened- but I couldn’t- I couldn’t face myself to tell anyone-” She refused to look up, “I- I feel so bad I- I let Owlclaw get exiled without speaking up-”
“You didn’t think it was him?” Their tone changed, but Featherpaw did not notice.
“No.” She sniffled, shutting her eyes tight. The clearing was almost completely dark as the stars began shining brighter.
“You should- you should know I’ll..” She began stuttering again, but she opened her eyes and stared at her paws. “Their pelt- was as dark as the pelt of a dark forest cat- they were almost like a shadow- but I- I couldn’t see very well I-” As she looked up at the cat next to her, her heart almost stopped. As they were taller than her, they loomed over her. They were like a shadow.
“Oh I know that. I saw it too. I was there.”It felt like someone had stabbed her heart. She had trusted them- she thought they were trustworthy..
The killer smiled, their mew calm and collected.
“You’re in pain. In Starclan, there is no pain. There is no guilt. Let me free you!”.
Featherpaw was frozen in fear. She felt her ears fold back, and she crouched low to the ground. She tried to move, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t do anything.
The killer circled her, their eyes wide and clouded with false hope.
“You’ll be free from this soon, I promise you.”
They grabbed her by her throat, teeth sinking in deep enough to choke her. Feathpaw struggled, finally able to move. The killer held her down, claws digging into her chest. Featherpaw tried to scream, she tried to scream out the killer’s name, but nothing would come out.
The killer deepened their bite, biting harder and harder until Featherpaw’s body went limp.
The killer then unfastened their grip, a smiled on their face.
“There is no guilt in starclan, Featherpaw. I’ll meet you there soon.”
Tears then fell from their eyes as they walked to the river to clean her blood from their claws and teeth.
