'Oh for StarClan's sake!' Dovetail snapped, watching Nightscar go. 'He's so melodramatic. Why would I hate him because of his birth.' She watched Treekit go and bristled. Standing to follow, she then heard Treekit's comment of wanting to be Nightscar's family. About being rejected. The queen's heart broke. All she'd done, all the times she'd tried to get Treekit included, all for naught. The kit hated her. Taking one long breath, Dovetail spun around and padded to the four kits in the nursery.

Spiderkit's eyes filled with concern. 'Do- Mama? What's wrong?' He leaped over, feathers forgotten. He knew that look - after his father had disappeared, Dovetail had become much the same. Despondent, but trying to look after her kits.

The young kit woke and looked around to see Dovetail staring at her sadly then walk back into the nursery. Did she hear? All that I said...?! She thought worried. No no no no no!!! She'll hate me now! What have I done..?! Her eyes teared up but she didn't cry. She said calmly to Nightscar "I have to go.." She scurried back inside to apologise to Dovetail. "Hey Dovetail... If you heard.. I'm sorry" She walked back to her loner corner to sleep.

Thornkit looked up at Dovetail, who smelled like a gloomy, rainy day. “ Are you okay, Dovetail? Did someone hurt your feelings? “ he looked up at his mother, wide-eyed. Who would hurt Dovetail’s feelings? She’s so nice!

Foxtuft
Male, 4 Years, 11 Months. Tags : Dovetail

Foxtuft could tell the queen’s heartbreak - he had seen it many times before. They used to be close friends while they were kits and apprentices. Being a warrior seemed to separate the two. He peeked his head into the nursery “ Dovetail, May I have a word with you? “ in the few moments before the queen replied, he contemplated telling her his feelings. This is not the time, you mouse-brain! You can’t just tell her now. You have to wait, even if it means waiting forever. He scolded himself.

The young kit walked in circles in her corner. She finally settled down and played with her string once more.
I want a family... But I don't want to pick favourites.. She thought I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or make them upset... She grabbed her string and took it over to Dovetail "Here" she said as she placed it in front of her.
She walked outside to the fresh-kill to get some food.

*CreamKit felt some sort of emotion well up inside her* *Was it envy? Anger? She did t know. All she wanted to do was to help treekit.* *CreamKit padded softly and quietly to treekit* "TreeKit? Wanna do something?" *She bit back a hiss of frustration to herself, and cowardliness of not saying more, trying to be kind* *Creamkit let you a smooth purr to hide the emotion welling inside her, though the purr had a hint of a frustration*

She couldn't help herself - at Treekit's gesture of sharing her string, at the kits concern, at Foxtuft coming in, she just laughed. Calming down, she gently nuzzled them all, letting Creamkit run off to talk to Treekit. 'I'm fine, thanks to you guys. I'll just be a moment, okay?' Then, she approached Foxtuft outside the nursery. 'What's up, Foxtuft?' Almost immediately a wave of nostalgia- the two had been close friends, but once Ravenstripe had come into her life, they'd moved apart.

Spiderkit grinned a little, glad to have cheered her up. 'Okay, Dovetail!' Then, he moved to pick up a feather, to put it in his nest. 'I want the biggest ones!'

“ I wanted to see if you were - uhm, okay. You seemed a little upset, and I - just wanted to help you out. “ Foxtuft felt as if the situation was awkward. He was a very social cat, and hardly ever found something hard to say. He just seemed to jumble his words, and shift his paws when talking to Dovetail, or her kits.

Thornkit

Thornkit’s Kit-Fluff stood on end. “ That’s not fair! I want some big feathers, too! “ he mewed to his brother. An idea came to his head “ We should give one to Dovetail! “ he said, with excitement. He picked up a large feather, and put it on Dovetail’s nest. “ That will make Dovetail feel even better! “ he said.

Her face softened, though still showed how amused she was. 'Well, I appreciate the thought. I'm alright, I just had a moment. How are you doing? I haven't had much of a chance to speak to you since... For a while.' She hesitated, before bringing the smile back up.

'Oh, yeah!' He grabbed one of the wing feathers and put it on the moss of Dovetail's nest, before taking some of the smaller feathers for himself and Thornkit.

“ I’ve been okay. Not much has happened since - Ravenstripe came. I suppose i’m just waiting for something exciting to happen. “ Foxtuft shuffled his paws in the earth. I’m just waiting for a cat to say they appreciate me. he thought, silently. Since he was made a warrior, he never really talked to a cat as if they were friends, besides a ‘ The weather is nice! ‘ or, ‘ Want to help me on Dawn Patrol? ‘ so he wasn’t used to the friendly gaze in Dovetail’s eyes.
