They'd come back beaten and bloodied, and while Snowstripe was sure the Warriors who had harmed them had a reason, it still wasn't very pretty.SkyBug wrote:~Shizuo wrote:"I'm sure," Sootnose said with a purr. "We're a lot alike, you and me." As if realizing things were getting too deep, he stopped before she could respond. "M'kay, this'll do! I think we're far enough out now that the prey should be all around us." His voice dropped. "What do you scent?"
Stormpaw stopped walking for only a pawstep of a pause as his words comparing them hit her ears. She was thrown back by it and she didn't know why, feeling her pelt heat with embarrassment she was sure he'd notice if she didn't answer him. Shifting her attention back towards the hunt, the apprentice lifted her head and smelled the air. What is that? Taking in another breath she thought. It's a bird. Thrust? Crow? Sparrow? Shrew! Oh, and what else? Finally with the answer, the mottled tabby responded, "A shrew, scent isn't the freshest. It's nest is probably in one of these trees. Then there is a mouse, it must have just past by." Her voice was lowered and spoken in barely a whisper as she didn't need any help of not catching the forest creatures.
Star's nose wrinkled. "I know how rude the other cats are," she sniffed. "I'm glad you're not as bad as them."

Sootnose nodded, taking in the scents himself. "Hunting is as much about thinking as skill," he said, voice low as to not disturb any wildlife. "Use your head. Judging by the scents, where did the shrew come from, and where did it go? Do you think it's still close enough to catch?"
