
Ember could hear faint voices. Perhaps other wolves, she thought. Ember pushed the thought away and looked down beside her. There striding next to her was Kiru, her pup, smiling back at her. She gave a treasuring smile to Kiru and looked back at the path. Ember could hear the small pieces of gravel crunching beneath her delicate paws. It was anything but silent were they were. Ember's breathing was steady, but Kiru's was not. She could hear him panting his little heart away. He didn't seem to care about anything, he just pounced along beside her, his usually playful smile.
Ember looked ahead. There flowed a long river, but she only stood at the mouth of it. She gave a sigh of relief and bolted. She froze when she felt one paw hit the water. It was freezing.... Though she didn't care. Kiru of course followed her to the river, also lapping up some water. The blue liquid trickled down his dry throught. This was his and his mother's reward for trotting around all day, looking for a place to shelter, he thought with a cheeky smile. Kiru's smile turned into a wild look. He glanced at Ember, his mother, and jumped into the water. "Come get me momma!" He chirped to Ember. Kiru could feel his heart bating against his chest, it almost felt like a burning sensation. Ember laughed aloud and dove in after him. "You asked for it!" She shouted back. Ember quickly gulped up some water and squirted it out onto his face. Kiru giggled and splashed her with his paw.
For these few moments, Ember forgot about all the troubles they had gone through, her and Kiru together. She forgot about all her worries. It was wonderful...
