Her ears perked up as she heard commotion. A battle was commencing, and she wasn’t there to witness it. This could be a perfect opportunity to see how the SunClan cats fight. It would help in later taking them down, so she couldn’t miss this. She weaved through the territory as if it were her own, avoiding trees and stalks of weeds with agile ease. She could feel power coursing through her as she was able to let go and run. Hmm, if her nose was as sharp as it used to be, and she was only seven moons old, then there were two rogue cats—she recognized her old scent—and a lot of SunClan cats. And blood was being shed.
Her interest piqued and she hurried to the scene. It was Grinner, the one who’d mutilated one of the apprentices. Just which one, she couldn’t remember. There were so many cats in this mixed Clan. Eaglestar was circling the rogue, and another cat, one she didn’t know, was protecting Grinner. Strange. It must have been a new development, because when she was a rogue, everyone had forced her to fend on her own. No rogues protected each other. It was just making yourself vulnerable to the safe cat’s wrath. At any time they wanted, they could turn on you.

[size=85]”See past the collar!” Clawheart snorted. There was nothing to a kittypet beyond its collar. It was like their final string, the one they just couldn’t cut. “Sure, you may be lost. You might even hate your Twolegs. But as long as you have that collar,” he stuck his face in her viewpoint, “you will never, ever, ever be a Clan cat. That collar marks you as property of your Twoleg. SunClan will never accept you for as long as you have that little strip of cloth around your neck. It is a Twoleg thing.” He spat in disgust. “Their scent is all over it, and unless you want to be heard and smelled at every moment you want to be quiet and unheard, you will take that collar off. Just saying. ”
“Oh, and if you want to become one of SunClan, forget it. You don’t have the spirit. Besides, Eaglestar is accepting way too many kittypets. One day, we’ll have mixed blood! Half-kittypet, half Clan. The thought scares me.” He stalked away, not bothering to listen at all.
