Hawk shrugged, not really caring about food. His stomach was empty, but he wasnt yet hungry, he'd gone for longer without food, and was used to doing that. The wind was strong, but not too strong, and the air was a nice cool temperature."We can probably hunt on the way?"He offered, time was of essence, after all. He turned back to the fresh morning air, and for a moment allowed himself to remember his dream.
Hawk was sitting in a cave, filled with flowers. Red flowers, Blue flowers, cream, green, orange, white, purple, violet, pink, indigo.....any color you could name. Hawk wore a mask, and was enjoying the quiet. He could hear the burble of voices, and then a cries. Sword noises. Hawk crept forwards, and saw Devlin. Even in the memory/dream/nightmare, the smell of iron, blood and flowers was a deadly, sickly smell. The reason that he'd never see flowers the same way. Rage...and fear filled him. Hawk was outnumbered, his kind were dying....he remembered diving into the flowers like a small child, shaking.
And then the quiet after Devlin and his men had left.
The deadly, deadly quiet.
Hawk shuddered as he was yanked out of his daydream. "I slept well, thanks" He lied easily with a smile. Keep pretending, keep the lighthearted smile. Act like nothings wrong. You'll be okay that way. He told himself. He was a good liar, but not that good. He sighed, looking out over the scenery as he tried to sort out his feelings. He rolled his shoulder blades back as he did. He was lonely, that he knew for sure. And depressed. As he looked out, over the sky, he remembered Eliaza. How close he'd come to being her mate. And how Devlin had destroyed that. He could still remember the sky, her face, the party.
Hawk was dancing with her, laughing as the party went on. Eliaza was smiling at him, happy. She was about to die, but she didn't know that yet. Nobody did. Hawk excused himself, going to fetch the ring, preparing to propose. But he never got the chance. Because that was where his dream started. And then they just went round in circles again. Nightmare after nightmare.
Hawk sighed, holding back the tears and faking a smile.
I will have my revenge. He promised himself.
