Chimera hesitated slightly, then pressed her flank against his. "I might know where you're coming from. Sort of."

I flinched, surprised by the close contact. No cat had bothered to get near me like that since I became an apprentice. It made me feel warm and tingly. "Oh?" I queried, as if nothing had happened. My gaze brightened with its usual mischievous light.

Chimera sighed. "Yeah. No father. Mom wasn't quite...right." She said, a mournful tone to her voice. "But, it doesn't matter anymore." She said strongly.

I leaned over to capture Chimera's right ear lightly between my teeth, smiling. "We're two of a kind, then."

Chimera stiffened slightly, then relaxed. "I guess we are." she purred softly.

After a moment's hesitation, I let go of Chimera's ear and sprawled out on the ground, feeling completely at ease despite the haunting memory of Inkpelt's gaunt face that dogged my thoughts. "What if I made my own Clan?" I whispered suddenly, lifting my chin to gaze at the clouds with an unknown expression.

Chimera tilted her head. "Wouldn't that be hard? I thought a bunch of cats were needed." She still didn't quite get the Clan thing, but she did know a little about it.

I frowned, then shrugged halfheartedly. Chimera was right; in order to build a successful Clan ... I'd need supporters. "You and me, to start?" I asked hopefully, looking up at Chimera. I knew what she would see. I gave her my most endearing look, ears dropped and eyes wide, like a begging kit.

Chimera smiled, laying beside him. "Well, if I'm going to join a Clan, why not yours?" Her voice contained a light purr.

I dropped the ridiculous, kit-like expression and grinned. "Then I shall be Raggedstar of ... UnknownClan!" I announced spectacularly, puffing my chest out as I'd seen his mother so on occasion. In that moment, the lingering memory of betrayal on my father's face as I murdered him vanished from my mind.
