Six little clan cats hanging on a thread...

Rainpaw blinked. His nest was all in shambles, possibly from the nightmare that was now fading from his memory. He stretched and shook a piece of moss off his leg, getting up to look at the stars. The murderer, also awake, padded up to their side. "Can't sleep, Rainpaw?" He shook his head, "No... Just a bad dream." "Hmm. I couldn't sleep either. Hey... Why don't we go hunting?" Rainpaw agreed, shrugging, and they left to find some prey up for a late-night stroll. Suddenly, a large hare dashed by them, heading towards a Thunderpath. "Rainpaw! Get it!" The murderer shouted, willing them onto the Thunderpath. Rainpaw instinctively chased it, ignoring the slight rumble under his paws. Suddenly the murderer bolted towards him, striking his paw and tumbling him into the path. He could only make out a shriek as he was hit.
Only the hare and the murderer escaped.

The murderer grinned with their shining white fangs, heading back to camp.

Three fell and chased some prey at the most wrong time....

Beestripe rolled over onto his back in his nest, opening his eyes and looking at the ceiling of the sheltered den. Right. He had been made a warrior a few nights ago, and had since been a warrior with his sister, Waspstrike. He sat up, drowsily stretching his limbs free from sleep, and shook his head. Speaking of his sister, he turned to look to his side. There, sleeping away, was his sister. He smiled softly and nudged her with his nose. "Hey, wake up. It's morning. We should probably be on the dawn patrol."" He spoke softly to her, as he always did with his sister. There was no cat he could tolerate more than her, and the comfort of being next to his littermate made him forget about the worries of why they had been made warriors in the first place.

Waspstrike groaned in annoyance as her brother nudged her side. She opened her eyes slightly to meet her brothers, who was sitting above her lithe frame. "Can't they send some apprentices to do that sorta job?" she replied sarcastically, with a teasing smirk on her face. Before her brother could say or do anything, she lazily got up on her feet and cocked her head towards the den's entrance. Padding out towards the center of the clearing she looked out for her fellow clan members. The camp was usually empty this early in the morning, but eerily even more so now that two had been murdered and Rosestar exiled. Anxiously, she sat right next to her brother, their flanks brushing against each other.

The round warrior chuckled, nudging his head against his sister's shoulder. "C'mon, I know we're always miserable, but cheer up. Hopefully we exiled the right cat. Nobody else has gone missing, have they?" He purred, hoping to lighten his sister's mood, only if just a little. "Besides, speaking of apprentices, why don't we see if Rainpaw's up? Or we could see if Wigeonmask needs any supplies, or even if he wants to come with us?" He asked, suggesting something that might keep Waspstrike occupied. Hopefully it would calm her nerves and anxieties, if only a little.

ferretwing woke as the two newly made warriors were leaving the den, making him feel a flutter of panic. it was the first morning of his deputy duties, and he was already sleeping in. he quickly stood and shook the moss out of his pelt and followed waspstrike and beestripe into the clearing. he watched them with a sense of discontent; he was frustrated that the two moved up in ranks but left rainpaw behind. the tom cat passed them and made his way to the apprentices’ den, peeking his head in to fetch rainpaw. his heart sank- rainpaw wasn’t in his nest.

“hey, waspstrike, beestripe,” ferretwing called out, turning around to the siblings, “have you seen rainpaw?” as soon as the words left his mouth, he felt stupid. of course they hadn’t; they’d only been awake as long as he had.

Beestripe's ears perked at his name, and he turned around to look at Ferretwing. Ah. The deputy. Right. The tom's question startled him slightly. How should he know where Rainpaw was? "No, me and Waspstrike were going to wake him up to see if we could ask to join the dawn patrol. I don't know if you noticed, but we've been awake as long as you have. Why, is he not in his nest?" He asked briskly, his tail flicking. Rainpaw was missing? Maybe he had gotten up early and gone for a walk. Surely he couldn't have gone too far. Thinking on his paws, he turned back to his sister. "Wasp, do you think you could go ask Wigeonmask if he's seen Rainpaw? You can ask if he needs any herbs while you're there." Pausing, he turned back to Ferretwing. "Do you think he could've gone for a walk? Did you check to see how recent his scent was in his nest? If it's stale, then we should look for him." He spoke quickly, with confidence, getting straight to the point of what he thought was important. His mind was whizzing through so many different possibilities, and if he was right, then he was frightened of what the outcome meant.

Waspstrikes eyes wandered between Ferretwing and Beestripe as the two toms talked... "Rainpaw? Missing? But we exiled the killer... why would he be gone?" she thought anxiously. "Rainpaw was usually the last one up, this is so unlike him... You guys go check his den though, I can see if Wigeonmask has seen him.... and if not Wigeonmask, perhaps even Harrierstar?" she said to the two. She quickly gave an affectionnate nuzzle to her brother before standing up and trotting over to the medicine cat's den. "Wigeonmask? Wigeonmask!" she shouted as she took a few footsteps into the den.

the tom shook his head at beestripe’s question, “no, i havent checked the nest yet for his scent. but i doubt he’d get up for a random walk...” he sighed glancing around camp. nobody else seemed to be up, so it seemed to be up to him and the two warriors to search for rainpaw. ferretwing watched waspstrike make her way to wigeonmask’s den before returning his gaze to beestripe. make that just me and him, he thought. ferretwing shook his head, and made his way to the camp’s entrance.

“we oughta get started,” he called over his shoulder, “the sooner we find rainpaw, the better.”

The striped tom allowed himself to watch his sister for a moment, before bringing back his attention to Ferretwing's voice. He nodded, setting off and pacing a few pawsteps in front of the tom, scenting the air for Rainpaw in any hopes that he was close by. His anxieties were comforted slightly, as he caught the scent of the apprentice. It was stale, but traceable and easy to follow. At least there was that to go off of. Why would he have been out here alone? Then he stiffened, catching another scent mixed with Rainpaw's. Looks like the apprentice wasn't alone after all. But what was it? "Ferretwing, there's another scent mixed with Rainpaw's here. I don't think he was alone, but he's definitely been out here, and judging by it, he hasn't been back recently." He paused, looking back at the deputy, for once unsure about how to proceed. He needed to trust Ferretwing to make the right decision, and he wasn't the senior warrior in this situation.
