In the sliver of what she could see, she saw Summerkit-drowning! She plunged in after her. "Sbubllkid!" her voice bubbled underwater. She saw her pale orange body, grabbed her by the scruff, pulled her up, and lifted herself out of the water. She dropped Summerkit, gasping for air, then nudged Summerkit. "Summerkit, wake up. Summerkit, are you okay?" She licked her pelt; the sharp tang of blood hit her tongue. "Wha..." She shrieked. She must have hit a sharp rock under the water. "Summerkit?!"

[raccoon bandit]

The she-kit faded away, death over taking her.

[Tatzel]

[Owlkit]
She raced to the nursery. "Cherryfeather, Burntpath, um, something's wrong with Summerkit. She won't wake up!"

[raccoon bandit]

Burntpath gasped, It couldn't be! He ran out of the nursery and towards his limp, lifeless kit, blood roaring in his ears.

[Tatzel]

[Owlkit]
"Um, we were playing mossball and..." suddenly her throat felt dry and she didn't want to talk.

"What happened?" he squeaked. He saw his sister's body, but not the blood. "What's wrong/ She's sleepin'!"

[raccoon bandit]

"And what?!" Burntpath demanded, spitting furiously. He looked at Cherryfeather for reassurement.

Rainkit tumbled out, eyes bleary from sleep. "no." He nosed her. "She's playin' dead, mousebrain" He yawned.

[Tatzel]

||CHERRYFEATHER||
"Hush, kits," she asked. She nodded. "Yes, Owlkit, what happened?" she meowed gently.
[Owlkit]
"Um..." she flinched, "I-I-kicked it into the river, and she went to get...it..." her voice faded.

"Nuh-uh," he told Rainkit, "I'm sure she's sleeping!"

Burntpath stuttered, at a complete loss for words. His eyes flickered furiously, tempted to outburst at the young kit. Summerkit was dead. This was horrible!

Rainkit sighed, "Wanna bet? I dare you to go wake her up!" The kit challenged his brother quietly.

"Okay," he took up the dare. He prodded her with a paw. "Hey, Summerkit, wake up!"

"Swiftkit," she said, her eyes full of sorrow. "Please, don't do that. She's..." she didn't know how to explain it to a kit. "She's in StarClan...but it's okay...she's happy there, and you'll see her someday..." she began to cry.

Burntpath gasped at the words, falling to his stomach by his daughter. His only female kit. He ran his tongue over her tiny, unmoving body, wailing in despair. The Tom sniffled.

Rainkit cocked his head "Whaddya mean?" He squealed, padding up to his father and poking his littermate's body.
