Flintfoot left camp, searching for fresh prey, he spotted a small hare sitting under an alder bush, and he darted after it. Flintfoot almost caught it, but the hare noticed him before he had the chance to pounce. The hare raced across the under-growth filled ground. Flintfoot struggled slightly to keep up. The hare crossed over the Thuderpath, but Flintfoot was too late to stop. Large, blinding yellow lights rushed toward the tom. With a bone-shuddering crack, Flintfoot was fling into the air and landed in a ditch on the side of the hard stone.

Flamewing sniffed the air. Something was wrong... She could feel it. Deciding to figure it out, she left camp. "She better not be with that dog." She muttered darkly. Horror swamped her when she saw Flintfoot. "Flintfoot! No!" She screeched, racing to drag him off the hard stone. "Flintfoot! Speak to me!" She wailed.

Flintfoot's head lopped back. His breathing was shallow. A large gash covered the lower half of his body, and his back legs were in an awkward position.
