"I am fine." She replied, giving the warrior a quick smile. She noticed the the two cats began to drift closer to her and Riverstripe. She toned them both out. "How was your apprentice days?" She asked the older warrior. Her back turned from Weaselstripe. That was the first question she could think of. She mentally face palmed at the frailness of the it. "Any crazy stories you could tell me?" Now She sounded like an apprentice asking for a elder to tell her a story. She nervously played with her paws.

He nodded. "It's quite lonely in the medicine den. I'm hoping soon I'll be able to pass my skills to an apprentice. Maybe they will be as quick of a learner as I was," he replied, "and if star clan doesn't object and I'm not old when they're ready to be in the position I hold now, maybe I can return to being a warrior until I'm ready to retire." He stared off to the distance almost hopeful of that outcome. "Maybe then I'll be able to reconnect with my sister or even have a family of my own."

B e e s t a r padded to her den. She curled up, her striped tell falling over her nose. I'll have to talk with Robinwind when he comes back, she thought, her eyes watching the camp from her den. It was fairly quiet, as most warriors were on duty. She didn't mind sleeping now, however. She'd been troubled the last few days. Her dreams carried low-swooping black birds - jackdaws, she could tell, from their wide beaks and sleek, shadowy feathers. She assumed that being so close to kitting, her mind was just feeling strange.
Beestar let her mind travel to her kits. I wonder if any of them will look like Streamstar... Shutting her eyes, she imagined squirming kits by her belly. One had the same silver tabby pelt as her mate and former leader. One of them had her same ringed tail. Purring lightly, Beestar began to drift off to sleep with the vision of her kits making her feel at ease.
Beestar purred, draping her tail over the small, precious bundles of fur beside her. The same kits she had imagined. She felt so happy, and a strong motherly love filled her heart. One kit began squirming away from the group towards the entrance of the den, and she gently pulled him back to her stomach. That's when cawing began outside the den. Her ears pricked and angled towards it. With a fierce need to protect her kids, she stood up, nudging them deeper into her nest, and padded to peer outside.
And endless stream of black birds stood in her camp. It was empty, not a warrior in sight. As she appeared, their beady, round eyes focused on her. They were eerie and black, devoid of all emotions.
Her fur stand on end as she desparetely glanced around for Blizzardclaw, or Robinwind, or just any other warrior in camp. She was alone, save her kits and the blackbirds. The began moving towards her, like a wave of darkness. Hissing, Beestar swatted at the nearest ones, but more kept coming. They snapped at her with their beaks, some catching her skin, forcing her to cry out in pain. The jackdaws backed her into the den until she was standing just in front of her nest. They began to snap at the kits, and Beestar crouched protectively over them, their backs ripping out her fur and piercing her flesh.
Another hiss sounded, and Beestar saw a flash of silver force itself into the den. Claws flashed as they ripped at the birds' feathers, driving them back out of the den. Beestar leaped to her paws and recognized the cat immediately. "Streamstar!"
He glanced back at her, his blue eyes round with worry and urgency. He opened his mouth as if to say something, looking as if his life depended on getting the words out of his mouth.
Beestar woke with a start. Her heart raced, and she was panting. Her fur was standing along her spine. She glanced around for her mate and kits, finding herself alone. It was just a dream. The thought eased her a little, and she let her fur lie down. The leader was still too unnerved to go back to sleep, so she pushed herself to her paws, finding them shaky, and slipped out into the sunlight.

D a p p l e l e a f jumped slightly at Weaselstripe's voice - she hadn't been paying attention. "It's just been very dry," she mewed. "It hasn't rained in awhile. I was just wondering if it would rain again or if it would snow." She shifted uneasily, not really having expected a cat to overhear her muttering.

J a c k d a w p a w fell silent as Splashpaw padded off towards her mentor. He fell in step at the back of his patrol, keeping his eyes focused ahead. He wondered if Tigerblaze would take him hunting before they went back to camp, or if he would just be able to dig into some fresh-kill afterwards. Hopefully another patrol had brought back prey and all of the cats in camp had been fed.

S w i f t b a d g e r padded away from his buried catch, making a note of its location so that he could collect it later. Padding on, he scented for more prey. He saw a bird, fluttering in a tree - and then caught sight of Littleflower, who had seemed to notice it as well. It's hers. He stood silently in the bracken watching, ready to congratulate her on her catch when she was finished.

A c o r n s p o t s kept quiet, knowing that the patrol was in capable paws. She glanced around, her jaws open, looking for a closer scent. She hoped Stagpaw would be able to find the kittypet - if she were able to drive it from the forest, perhaps this could be her ticket to becoming a warrior! She glanced at the apprentice, silently willing her to succeed. The fact that the apprentice seemed excited about the task was a good sign.

Q u i v e r p a w nodded, feeling sorry for her mentor. She would probably never be able to actual enjoy the Gatherings. "I understand," she mewed. "Don't worry, Mistflower! If you get chosen and don't want to go, I won't make you. I'm sure Southstar will understand. But hey, you're an EagleClan cat! And a tough one! So those OakClan cats should be sorry they lost you, and shouldn't dare put a paw out of line around you!" She was concerned the OakClan cats would talk badly about her mentor, or even worse, treat her like a traitor.

D e e r t a i l nodded. "Thank you, Southstar," he mewed, dipping his head. He padded along beside Foxcloud, this time keeping a respective distance. He was afraid he'd overstepped with the warrior. "Should we keep hunting or collect our prey and take it back to camp? It's after sun-high, everyone who's coming back from border patrol will be hungry. If there are more patrols out, aside from Southstar's, that is..."

H o n e y stood cautiously at the EagleClan border, scenting the air. She hunted in the forest occasionally, but she normally did not creep this close to the border. The silver she-cat's stomach grumbled. She had slipped out of the cat-flap before her Housefolk had filled her dish, so she had yet to eat that morning. I'll just hunt real quick. She could smell it - a fat forest shrew. She trotted pleasantly into the forest, happy to be able to hunt but still remain with her Housefolk.
The EagleClan scent became strong. Honey's heart dropped. Oh no, they're nearby! She crouched, peering around, wondering if she'd be able to out-sneak the Clan cats.

Tigerblaze simply nodded in response, keeping his gaze ahead. As they drew further from the Horseplace, the river slowly came into view. The golden tom stopped to leave a scent-marker there, briefly waiting for the others to do the same, before continuing onward. He glanced up at the sky, noting the position of the sun. It's already sunhigh. We should get back to camp soon. In truth he was quite ready to get this patrol over with, sunhigh or not. There had been too much tension that morning, what with their disturbing discovery in the tunnels followed by his spat with Elmshade.

Splashpaw wasn't sure she believed her mentor, but didn't press further. "You bet I am," she purred. "Who are you going to look after when I really am a warrior?" Her gaze followed Jackdawpaw, who had fallen behind a bit. "Jackdawpaw always needs monitoring," she joked, loud enough for him to hear.

"You're right," Sunflare admitted, giving his chest fur an embarrassed lick. "I just didn't want to interrupt you, that's all. But I'm sorry. It won't happen again." He dipped his head to the deputy once more before turning to Bearpaw. "Sorry, Bearpaw. I didn't mean to get us in trouble. Maybe we'll go out hunting some other time, yeah?" With a wave of his tail, he padded back to where Creamflower was waiting. "Looks like it's just us now."

Riverstripe looked a bit surprised by the she-cat's question, but his expression changed to a thoughtful one as he tapped his paw against the ground "Well, let's see...My apprenticeship wasn't that exciting, but I did meet a dog up close once. It wasn't a big scary one though, like you hear in stories, and it didn't chase me. It was kind of small, just a bit bigger than I was, with a flat, wrinkly face. It just sniffed me and then walked away."

EagleClan

Nightwish felt her heart crack just a little with sympathy for the tom. The thought of having a family did sound nice--for him, of course, she added quickly in her mind. But she couldn't help but feel a bit angry that he felt the need to change his path just to reconnect with his sister. What if he had wanted to be a medicine cat? What if that was the path he chose? Why should he have to change it to have a good relationship with his kin? "Your sister should accept you no matter what, whether you're a medicine cat or warrior."

Finally, Littleflower spotted a bird on a low branch, but it looked...different, somehow, from the one she had heard. It was a small thing, a sparrow from the looks of it; not seemingly capable of producing such a raucous noise, but she shrugged it off. Prey is prey. Quick as lightning but quiet as snow, she clawed her way up the tree until she reached the branch it was on. She waited at the base of the branch for a moment, judging the distance between herself and the bird and watching its every movement, before slowly creeping towards it, one paw at a time. The branch was barely wide enough for her to place one paw in front of the other, but sturdy enough that it didn't rock when she walked on. But just as she was about to spring, she heard it again: the loud, obnoxious cawing of something overhead. Not this time! The sparrow had started to take flight, but she was faster. She snagged it by the wing before it could get very far and finished it off quickly before dropping to the ground with it.

"Thank you," Southstar purred to Foxcloud before looking at Deertail, who seemed a little dejected. "You can keep hunting," he told the warrior, deciding that perhaps the two needed some alone time. "We need prey now more than ever. Thank you for the offer though." He dipped his head to the two, then turned to his deputy, tilting his head expectantly. "Well, Streamspot? Do you think it's a good idea, for Stagpaw to track the scent?"

Darkpaw nodded in response to Swiftbadger's decision to have him and Cloverpaw go on their own. He wasn't exactly close with the other apprentice, but at least Swiftbadger trusted them enough to hunt alone, as he should. He hated how condescending warriors were, going from treating apprentices like kits and hovering over them to outright paying no attention to them whatsoever. He was almost fully grown anyway. "Come on," he huffed to Cloverpaw, heading in the opposite direction of the others.

Creamflower looks to see Sunflare has returned from talking to Blizzardclaw and listens to what he has to say, shrugging. "Oh well." she said. "I think thats fine by me! Lead the way!"

Elmshade laughed, pausing for a moment to go and mark the border. She returned with a smile. "I'm sure that I'll have my paws full watching you as a warrior," she teased. Looking back at Jackdawpaw as Splashpaw mentioned him, she purred. "Jackdawpaw may be a pawful, but I'm certain he'll get into less trouble than I ever did as an apprentice," the warrior said. "You're not that much of a trouble-maker though, are you Jackdawpaw?"

Robinwind - 27 moons - OakClan Medicine Cat - Tags: Splashpaw, Jackdawpaw, Ivypaw, Tigerblaze
Robinwind kept padding onwards, looking around contently. They were getting closer back to camp. He hadn't noticed any signs of catmint or any more useful herbs. While the warriors marked the borders, he waited idly, looking around the trees. There were more birds, a whole flock of blackbirds up in one tree. Huh. That was a bit odd, but Robinwind supposed that it could be a sign of the nearing leaf-bare. He stared up at them as he waited for the rest of the patrol, and as they began to move again, the birds took flight, flying straight towards them! Robinwind yelped and dropped his bundle of herbs, cowering to the ground. The flock of birds flew over him, blocking out the sun, surrounding him in darkness, and he squeezed his eyes shut, preparing for the claws of the birds on his back. But nothing came. There hadn't even been the winds from the wings. Had it been nothing at all? With wide eyes, he stood back up on shaky legs, looking to the sky for any sign of the flock, but there was nothing. His fur was all puffed out now, and he turned to look at the rest of the patrol. It didn't look to him like any of them had seen the birds either. Was it a vision from StarClan? Robinwind was uneasy. This had been the second bad sign today. What if something terrible was coming? "Oh StarClan..." He muttered, dazed. "We need to get back to camp."

Smiling, Sunflare padded off. He was a bit sad Bearpaw couldn't go with them, but perhaps it wasn't a bad thing. After all, he had been wanting to spend more alone time with Creamflower. He waited until they were out of earshot of the others before breaking the silence. "You know, while we're out here there is something I've been meaning to ask you..." He paused a moment before continuing. "You've always been a very caring and nurturing she-cat. You became a full-time queen because of your love for kits. But tell me, do you ever want any of your own?"

"He can be, when he wants to be," Splashpaw teased, nudging the younger apprentice. Just then, she heard a yelp up ahead and peeked past the warriors to see Robinwind, huddled up with his pelt fluffed out and herbs scattered everywhere. "What happened?" she asked, shocked. "Is he okay?"

Tigerblaze hadn't noticed that Robinwind had fallen a bit behind, until he heard a frightened meow from the tom behind him and whipped around to see the medicine cat on the ground, seemingly in shock. "Robinwind?" He set down his own bundle of herbs and took a step towards the tom. "What's the matter?"

Streamspot froze her muscles turning to ice. She knew who that strange kittypet scent belonged to. It was too close to her own to be anyone but Honey. Moons of anger and anguish rushed back and hit her so hard she felt it all as strongly as the day Honey had left their Clan. She heard Southstar's voice and it brought her out of her shock. She realized her fur had spiked along her back and her long tail fur had fluffed to twice its normal size. She quickly forced it back down. "Uh," she meowed uncharacteristically at a loss for any words. She shook herself quickly reminding herself to chill out. "No. I wanted her to check the border. Not chase a random kitty-pet." She said harshly. She looked at her leader hoping he would see the desperation in her eyes to avoid this particular cat.
