Static stayed very still as the mare carefully worked and tugged at the buckle, his tail plume brushing lightly over the top of a weed as he listened to her speak. "So you let the two-legs get you too eh?" she asked him, more of a statement actually, and he gave a wry smile in response. Yep, that's exactly what had happened. But his interest didn't peak until what she said next registered properly. She was an escapee too. Even though she'd known how to remove the thing on his head all along, it hadn't occurred to him that she was running from the same thing he was until right then. Confinement. Freaky food in a sack. A good, stout shaving and straps on your face. The very thought of it all made him cringe. "Oh! There." her voice broke into his thoughts, and as the halter fell free, he jumped back as if it were a snake. Hateful, man-made thing. For just a moment, he stared at it with a sort of odd fascination, but quickly composed himself as he felt air gratefully drinking into the places it had previously touched. It'd been on very tight. "Now how does that feel?" she asked him, grinning, probably at his response to the limp object. He grinned back, his mane bristling a little in the excitement. "The best I've felt in days!" he crowed, and gave a little prance. He could be quite foal like at times. "Now if I could just regrow my hair by tomorrow." he chuckled darkly, and then smiled again. "Thank-you."
And then, with the subtlety of a nest of hungry baby birds, Regina was there once more, speaking to the new mare. He smiled to himself, watching the two interact, and noted that this new character had a hidden quality. You could just barely make it out, you had to be paying very close attention in order to catch it, but she would slip up occasionally. Something less censored, something less controlled that would peep through the cracks when she wasn't paying attention, and it was very different than what she showed on the surface. In other words: she wasn't the mare that she was leading everyone to believe. This intrigued Static all the more. Static liked secrets. He glanced back over at Siren as he boarded this particular train of thought. Some very interesting mares to match an interesting new land. A dark, scary, maddeningly cold land.
He gave another, much deeper shiver, silently cursing those who'd robbed him of natural insolation, when the mare continued again. She seemed to be addressing the entire group this time. "I think you guys may want to find some safe, well sheltered place. I can feel a storm coming on." Without another word, she was trotting off in the opposite direction, the wind ruffling his mane as he watched her go. Regina was trotting up behind her, questions spouting forth left and right, when the mare turned back around. She gave Regina, as well as the others, 2 very important things to remember. Firstly, her name was BlueMoon. Secondly, the end of her sentence caused his blood to run cold. "I'm not staying out in this type of storm longer than I have to." As she turned and started off again, her form quickly disappearing into the darkness, Regina (who'd started to follow her off) paused in her tracks to dubiously glance back at them. Static heard a low rumble of thunder off in the distance, the smell of dust settling a few miles off enveloping him, and his heart gave a small leap in response. This, was not good. He gave an only slightly frightened swallow as what she'd said sunk in. And what it meant to him. This whole hairless thing was going to be quite a nuisance, wasn't it? Sure, rain in cold weather was perfectly okay... if you had hair. Escaping the humans... heh, if he froze to death in his sleep, all of this will have been for nothing. He cocked his head as he stared back at the filly, and then took a few unsure steps forward to follow them. But then, he too paused, and turned around just in time to see Kirian heading off in the opposite direction. He was moderately alarmed by this. Wait, were they splitting up? What all had he missed? Which group should he follow?! And in that moment, Static was slap in the middle of a situation that forced him to make a snap decision. One that had to be made before the two potential leads got more than a canter's length away. This wasn't how he liked to do things at all, he liked to be able to have time to think about what to do, pick the option that would least likely end with him dead or severely injured. But that was not on the table now.
What followed next was perhaps the turning point of his life, and he wasn’t even aware of it. To his complete and utter chagrin, as Siren suddenly pranced by in the most exceedingly of dainty fashions, her tail flicked up, and tickled right across his nose. He pulled back in surprise, making a frantic snorting noise in an attempt to try to stop what was sure to follow.... but it was too late. Static sneezed so hard, and with such force, that he was flung clean back onto his haunches. He'd been prone to sneezing fits ever since he was little, and all it took was one. little. tickle. And that wasn't the end of it. He sneezed again, this one suppressed enough that it made a faint squeak when it forced through his nostrils. Oooo, it was like she knew. Ears drooping dazedly, his eyes watering up for another round, his gaze now wandered accusingly after the giggle that now teasingly flounced into his head. She'd done it on purpose. Despite the possibly ceaseless sneezing the mare had just inflicted on him, he threw a wild, unsteady grin after her fading form, just catching her eyes as she glanced over her shoulder at him. He pinched his eyes closed as he tried to fight off the next one, blissfully frustrated for now. SNEEZE. Regina came hurrying past him to catch up with others, and with that, he was the last one left in the clearing. Suddenly, he hadn't the slightest trouble deciding who to follow. "Static!" he answered suddenly (remembering part of what Kirian had said earlier), staggering up and after the stallion and the others as if he'd known them his whole life. He gave his head a brisk shake as he came ambling up next to Siren. "My name's Static." he finished with a smile, giving the petite mare a cautious look as he maintained several feet between them, his nose twitching for another sneeze. He wasn't about to let that tail get him again.
The halter was happily left behind.
