"The Snowfoot Case?" Spiderheart echoed. "Wait...You're not thinking what I think you're thinking, are you?"

"Cut with the chit chat. Where were you when Snowfoot was killed?" Herringpaw cut him off. He was about to say 'murdered' instead of killed, but changed his mind, for he wouldn't go too bold at first. The question was ridiculous, since due to the flood, the whole clan was stuck on an open hill close to a forest. Herringpaw didn't care, though, he just wanted to hear what Spiderheart says.

"Wha--Killed?" Spiderheart's eyes stretched wide with disbelief. "What are you talking about? She fell from a tree; I was with her the whole time!"

"Please relax, sir, we're not accusing you of anything." Herringpaw replied calmly. Not yes, at least, he added in his head. The apprentice silently wrote down 'with her the whole time' in his head. He cleared his voice before continuing, "Did you have any connection with Snowfoot?"

Spiderheart lashed his tail. "I loved her as more than a friend, if that's what you're implying, but no. We never got to be mates. We were only friends."
