The black tom sat outside the apprentice den. After a pleasant slumber, he contently whisked his tail back and forth, shifting his amber eyes back and forth between each cat that passed. He searched for his mentor, not seeming to see the warrior in camp at the moment.

She sat at the edge of camp, a huff escaping her mouth. Throughout the night she and been twisting and turning, and couldn't sleep well. Once she gave up, she had discovered that there and been a prickly stick in her nest. Tired and slightly irritated, she pouted on the side; though in a flash she would cheer up.

Maplepaw padded out of WillowClan’s camp entry and into the dense forest. He opened his mouth slightly in search of prey. So far, he couldn’t pick up anything, so he ventured deeper into the forest. He eventually came across a small shrew by a nearby oak tree. It was nibbling on a nut, and wasn’t paying any attention to its surroundings. The shrew was completely oblivious that Maplepaw was standing there, facing downwind so that it could not scent him. Narrowing his eyes with determination, he dropped into the proper hunter’s crouch. His body low to the floor, he slowly crept toward his prey and when he was close enough, he pounced. Maplepaw landed directly on the prey. Unfortunately the shrew let out a small squeal before he killed it with a swift bite to the neck. He then dug a hole in the ground near a large boulder and placed the shrew neatly inside. The tom then scraped earth back over his prey and continued searching for more. This time though, he headed in the opposite direction. All the prey in this area probably knew he was there because the shrew had made noise. (Anyone want to run into him?)

The queen was actually grateful for littlefang's warmth and comfort. She purred in amusement. "No, thanks littlefang." she smiled, but it quickly dropped. What if her kits were born during Leaf-bare? Would they be able to survive? She looked at the other queen with a worried expression. "My kits should be born anytime now..." she began, "What if they are too fragile to survive? What if this Leaf-bare is too harsh?" she asked frantically.
