"Okay!" Bluepaw decided. "I'll use your body as a shield to protect myself. After I get out safely, your corpse can burn in flames. Got it? Okay, three two one go!"

"Brace yourself!" Bluepaw exclaimed. "There's only one way out... okay, we're going to leap over the fire. Can you do this?"

"I...." Jaypaw began. "Yes. I can do this."

"Three," Bluepaw took a deep breath. "Two," his tail brushed over Jaypaw's back, comforting her. "One," he bunched his muscles, and–

The ground transformed into a blurred river as Bluepaw glided over it. The moment seemed to last for eternity, though in truth it was only a second, and Bluepaw landed flat on his paws, safe on the other side. His paws tingled with adrenaline; he made it. "Jaypaw?" he called. "You there?"

Jaypaw jumped a moment after Bluepaw. It was absolutely terrifying to her. She could feel the heat of the fire under her chest and she felt as she was beginning to burn. She really wasn't but it was still awful. She landed, but her front right paw didn't land the right way. It was bent and she felt a sudden burst of pain. It was broken, she knew it. She had seen cats with broken limbs before. Luckily, hers was minor.

"Jaypaw!" Bluepaw cried, racing to her side. "You alright?" Please don't die on me... Hollowflight's death was terrible enough!
