The ground was cold that morning. To be fair, the ground was always cold up in the mountains. However, Nieves felt that the cold was almost malicious that day. It seemed to nibble tauntingly at his paws, chuckling: 'Just wait. It will get worse'. The feline had been running for quite some time in an attempt to warm himself. His hot breath poured out of his mouth in gushes of steam as he panted. He was hungry and weary, and not entirely sure where he was. This did not pose a problem for the leopard, who hardly ever knows where he's headed or from whence he came. He had no particular plan, save to wander about, perhaps find a bite to eat while he was at it.
And, it seemed that he may be in luck. The fuzzy-warm smell of rabbit hit his nostrils. He quaffed up the smell greedily. Rabbit is poor fare for sure a majestic beast, but he supposed that, just that once, he could perhaps munch on something below his standards. At least it wasn't bird. Urgh! Nieves shuddered, his muscles rippling beneath his patchy coat. Bird was terrible. No meat and all those bones! Useless creatures. Hard to catch and no sustenance for the input required. One would be better off trying to eat rocks.
He crouched down, paws skating across the ground. He wasted no time on a surprise attack. Fast and brutal, that was far more his style. His bushy tail flicked out behind him, dancing with the thrill of the hunt. The rabbit smell got closer, closer. Suddenly, the animal took fright, leaping right towards the then rather startled big cat. Rabbits hardly ever did that, he mused, but didn't question his good fortune too long. If prey wanted to come in his direction, who was he to refuse its dying wish? Grinning fiercely, he extended his sharp claws and pounced...
Almost directly onto another leopard coming in the opposite direction.
