wasptail let out a yawn. he eyed up the fresh kill pile hungrily, but his ear flicked as he heard his name. he glanced over and realized it was silverstar speaking with tallsky. he padded over to the two slowly. "good morning. I'd love to go on a hunting patrol." he mewed.

minkpaw glanced behind her and saw cedarstripe padding over. "oh a hunting patrol! that sounds great!" she exclaimed a little too eagerly. she laughed a little embarassedly. she didn't want to act like a hyper apprentice in front of a strong warrior like cedarstripe. but at the same time she loved hunting patrols. not only could she demonstrate her techniques for haywatcher, but she loved the feeling of pride from bringing fresh kill back for her clan.

Hollowpaw approached Foxstrike and Milkpaw with a bored expression on his face. He definitely wasn't going to mention that Foxstrike awoke him--he was older than Hollowpaw, thus he felt he needed to respect him even when irritated. He flicked his tail irritably close to the ground but attempted to make his voice calm and collected. It seemed his nightmare last night--of dark, creepy forests, was hanging onto his mindset. "What will we be working on today?"

The tom seemed to stand at attention when Silverstar spoke to him. Relief flooded through his body as he finally felt like he was being given a task to complete. "Absolutely!" The black and white tom had noticed his leader keeping an eye on him before becoming distracted. He felt fear settle in the pit of his stomach before shaking his head. It's not like she can read your mind! He attempted to find something to keep him busy. He wandered towards the dens to see if there were any nests or walls that needed to be repaired with branches or leaves.

He sat near the medicine cat's entrance to groom his rather messy pelt, noticing one of the warrior's Tallsky giving him a greeting. He gave a nod back but was not sure if the warrior saw it or not as he was busy going elsewhere. Shaking his fur lightly he looked over to his apprentice Beampaw there talking with Sagepaw, he was blad that the younger tom had some friends in the clan, he didn't have many as an apprentice. Hee still felt rather nervous when teaching the younger tom, Beampaw was his very first apprentice ever and he was not being a medicine cat for long either, sometimes he just wanted to ask some advances to his mentor Sundapple, but he could as the former medicine cat was already gone. He looked at his apprentice running his way "are you being up long Beampaw?" he asked him gently.

At the first, he was going to ask Minpaw if she knows where they assignment to the patrols, but he didn't need to as the Cedarstripe walked in and answered to his never asked question "Oh I see, of course, I don't mind hunting a little bit more" he responded to the warrior. He then turned back at Yewfrost "well you heard that Yewfrost, but I think we need to go now...I hope you enjoy the bird" he told him with a gentle nod and smile.

"I figured we could start here and work our way along the border back towards camp" She said in a quiet voice. She turned her attention to the undergrowth in front of her, tasting the air for prey-scent.

The black tom covered his ears with his white paws as FoxStrike's voice got louder in an attempt to wake him up and a soft grumble escaped his mouth. He opened one of his eyes and glanced to see FoxStrike was already out of the warriors den. He laid there for what felt like a second or two despite it being for much longer. He eventually removed his front paws from his ears and heaved himself into a sitting position, giving his pelt a quick lick before exiting the den.

He looked around the camp before spotting FoxStrike alongside the rest of patrol and EchoPaw, perhaps the medicine cat apprentice was joining them. It didn't take the warrior long to realize he was the last to join up and quickly hid his embarrassment with a lick to his chest fur. He finally walked up to join everyone "Sorry for being late, Didn't rest very well last night" He apologized to the cats who were waiting for him. He didn't bother trying to make up some elaborate excuse for why he was late, he had in fact simply struggled to sleep last night as his mind had wandered to SwallowPaw.

A soft whine escaped TanglePaw's mouth at the feeling of a paw nudging her awake and she attempted to shift away hoping to sleep longer but once she recognized the voice of her mentor, she knew that plan wasn't going to work "I'm up, I'm up" She mumbled sleepily waiting for the nudging to cease before finally sitting up from her nest. A soft pout was evident on her face as she was displeased to be waken up too early for her liking.

She stood up from her nest paying no mind to the bits of moss that clung to her unkempt pelt and slipped out of the den with her mentor. Her pout quickly changed to a smile at the sight of her friend, SprigPaw, and she quickly made her way over to her and YewSplinter "Are we part of the same patrol?" She asked hopefully as her drowsiness seemingly vanished into thin air.

Roseshine felt a rush of guilt at the soft whine that left Tanglepaw's mouth, she knew her apprentice wasn't a morning cat and felt bad waking them up so early. As soon as she heard the confirmation that Tanglepaw was getting up Roseshine pulled back and flashed an apologetic look at her apprentice who was pouting. Shifting so that she could slip out of the den, she could feel Tanglepaw leaving the den with her. Together they made their way over to Yewsplinter and Sprigpaw. "Yewspliter is leading the patrol this morning" she confirmed as she flicked her tail to brush some moss off her apprentice's shoulder. Then she made her way over to Yewsplinter's side. She offered the white and orange molly a warm smile. "Thanks for waiting for us, we are ready now" she meowed to the older warrior. She wasn't very close to the molly but she admired the older warrior and was looking forward to being on patrol with them. After all if trouble should find their small patrol she would prefer to have a strong warrior with her to help protect the young apprentices.

Sagepaw pressed closer to his brother as Beampaw's warmth sink into his thick pelt. His gaze shot up to Beampaw's when he noticed the way his brother's whiskers drooped and he gently headbutted his brother's shoulder. "There is always next time" he meowed in response. Then his gaze followed his brother's to the fresh-kill pile, it was looking woefully small. His ears perked at the idea and he sat a little straighter. He opened his mouth to reassure his brother when Beampaw seemed to notice Brokenfire and hurried off with a farewell being thrown over their shoulder. Sagepaw watched as his brother hurried away, feeling very lonely all of a sudden. He hunched his shoulders feeling very tiny without either of his brother's by his side. A tortoiseshell molly approaching him got his attention and he lifted his gaze as he realized the warrior was his mentor. Straightening up in a vain attempt to seem bigger than he really was, he dipped his head in greeting to his mentor. "Good morning Halfsnow, its been quiet. I am ready for whatever you have planned" he meowed in his usual emotionless tone. His ears perked at the sound of someone approaching and turned his gaze as the brown tabby warrior Juniperclaw approached them. At the hunting patrol idea he swiveled his even gaze on Halfsnow, trying to mentally convince the molly that it was a good idea. Hunting to help the clan would be the next best thing after going on patrol.

Darkcreek shifted uncomfortably near the edge of the camp, he had been up for awhile since he was guarding the camp. It wouldn't be long before someone came to relieve him of his post. Pushing himself to his paws he started to pace back and forth, his mind should have been on guarding the camp but instead it had been drifting back to his friend Crookeddawn. He hadn't seen his friend for awhile and he was sure the only reason the black and white tom was on his mind was because of the gathering that was coming up in three days. He would get to see his friend again then. He paused for a moment as he tried to ignore the fact that he knew that if he had the chance he would want to see Crookeddawn sooner. Giving his head a shake to clear those thoughts he continued pacing, hoping that someone would relieve him of his duty soon. Maybe he could go hunting near the border, there was a chance that Crookeddawn would also be hunting.

wasptail ran behind his leader, feeling the slightly chilly wind on his face. well if I was tired before, I'm certainly not anymore! he did love hunting, and it was especially nice to do so with his leader accompanying him. silverstar gave a signal with her tail to slow and he did so. "yeah that sounds like a plan." he replied, also scenting the air. he could hear the small scratchings of mice in the undergrowth, the cawing of birds overhead, the rustle of leaves as squirrels rummaged around. he found his mind wandering from thinking about prey to admiring the scenery. the forest was truly beautiful. he wondered what the other cats were doing back at camp. or what the cats in lightclan were doing. or what tallsky was thinking, or if silverstar had slept well. wasptail sat down, absentmindedly getting lost in his thoughts without even realizing it.

Promise.” He straightened, trying to project more energy than he felt. Some scraps of bedding fell off his messy pelt as he talked, remnants of last night’s tossing and turning. “What are we doing today, Brokenfire?” Beampaw chirped brightly, diverting the conversation elsewhere.

Hopping around like a rabbit in a meadow, Sprigpaw almost forgot about being a tough cat sent to guard the border. As her mentor's tail brushed over her own, the young molly remembered her manners. Seeing a familiar curled coat emerge from the apprentice den, complete with a fresh layer of bed shreds, Sprigpaw sprung back to her feet. “Tanglepaw!” she called, waving her tail in greeting. Grinning back at her friend, the apprentice responded, “Yup, we are! Morning border patrol.” The group finally got going. She fell into step behind Yewsplinter and Roseshine. Leaving the camp behind, along with its eavesdropping ears, Sprigpaw decided this was perfect time to conspire. Gotta get back at Rootpaw for that rude awakening. The buzz of the undergrowth would blanket their words, just as it dampened their footsteps. “Listen, Tanglepaw,” the mischievous molly mewed, sidling over to her friend. She glanced at their mentors, who would no doubt ruin their fun if they found out. Especially Yewsplinter. She had seen her rigidly rule-following mentor look back at them, probably wary of the apprentices' troublemaking. But last time Sprigpaw checked, the warrior code never said anything about kit-like tricks. Once the apprentice was pretty sure they were safe, she whispered, “You up for a prank?”

Cedarstripe couldn't help but admire the older warrior's dedication. “I'm glad you're ready for another hunt. I'll meet you back here once I fetch Honeydash,” he responded, dipping his head as he turned to leave. But the warrior slowed when he passed the apprentices. Cedarstripe smiled as the pair chattered together, happy to see them so eager to hunt. As long as they didn't scurry around like squirrels under his feet, knocking him off his paws, he wouldn't mind their enthusiasm at all. The dark tabby tom watched them for a moment longer, reluctant to take the step toward the warrior's den. Amberpaw's joking summed up his predictions perfectly, but Cedarstripe wasn't about to purr. He and Honeydash had had their... difficulties, with their equally prideful personalities. Part of him wanted to just yowl into the den like his son and get it over with. But Cedarstripe was determined to not let this day start off on the wrong paw. Ducking into the warrior's den, he located Honeydash among the other sleeping forms. As he reached out a paw to prod her, the gruff warrior mewed stiffly, “Wake up, Honeydash. You're assigned to a hunting patrol.” It almost felt like poking a sleeping lioness, golden fur and all. But he had nothing to fear from the younger warrior. If it came down to it, Cedarstripe would not hesitate to assert his authority as patrol leader. The result might not be pretty, though.

Silverstar crouched as she heard movement in the undergrowth and swiveled her ears to pinpoint the prey. This was her favorite part of being a warrior, and for a brief time out here in the forest, she could forget about all her responsibilities as clan leader and just focus on hunting for her clanmates. She could smell the tiny creature now, a mouse, careless enough to venture out into the open this close to the Owl Tree. Without making a sound, she carefully lifted one foot at a time and set it down carefully, stalking her prey. When she was a couple tail-lengths away, she pounced and made the kill. She said a silent prayer to Starclan, then looked around to see how Wasptail and Tallsky were doing.
