R a g g e d ears twitched as Tawnystrike sat outside of the warriorsโ den. The calico had become accustomed to waking early in her time as MarshClanโs leader - she felt safer watching over the camp. Still, despite all of her habits built around her Clanโs protection, Tawnystrike had not been able to save them from tragedy. The thought plagued her as she curled her tail around her paws, a patch of fur still missing, looking as if she had been sharing tongues with the fire. Her pelt had become patchy, as if she had forgotten how to groom, and under the fluff she was thin. No, prey had been scarce, and Tawnystrike would never dare take more than her fair share. Especially not with kits on the way and so many young mouths to feed - with the three Clans becoming one, both the apprenticesโ and warriorsโ dens were filled to the brim. Weโll probably be stuck digging out the warriorsโ den again today, Tawnystrike mused to herself, gaze flicking towards it. She wouldnโt mind the work - the green-leaf sun was always hot on her long-haired pelt, and the former StormClan dens kept her cool, even if she was tired of waking up with muddy paws.

A soft mrowr of laughter escaped the ginger-and-white tabby as he leaned back on his haunches, making room for the sisters to move, though Specklethorn absconded from the den almost immediately. โSheโs always got a burr in her fur, huh?โ He snickered to Patchcloud, flicking his tail towards the leaving queen. Only a couple of moons had the tom been part of StormClan, and then AshClan, but still, Sunmuzzle had managed to make it feel as close to home as he could. He felt a sense of guilt - MarshClan had been his motherโs pride, and his old mentor and closest friend was taking the blow harshly as well. Still, what can you do? No use caterwauling over lost prey, Sunmuzzle always thought. Since, he had been trying to establish a name for himself in AshClan, and part of that was making friends - which he had done easily with Patchcloud, though the queenโs littermate, he had realized quickly, would be more of a challenge.
โMorninโ, Smoketail,โ Sunmuzzle greeted the tom with a purr, his golden eyes brightening. โI was gonna see if Patchcloud here wanted to go hunting with me this morning.โ He punctuated his words by bumping his flank against the aforementioned she-catโs. โYouโre up just in time - I was gonna see if you would be keep on cominโ along, too!

F o r the past moon, Ivydapple had found it difficult to sleep. Even now the silver-and-spotted queen moved across the moor, her slender form moving at a quick pace. Hunting and patrolling werenโt on her mind; no, she had awoken just before dawn and had set out on a quick walk. Now, the sun was rising, and she wanted to be back in camp in time for patrols. Keeping busy had helped, but it couldnโt really drive away the dark cloud in the back of her mind. She could hardly stand sleeping in the warriorsโ den, knowing that Moonbeamโs nest was only a bit away from hers - knowing that he was only a fox-tail away from their kits. Her anxiety had almost driven her mad, and on top of that, Snowstar was scaring the queen. She had been a warrior in StormClan for many moons and never would have expected the three Clans to become one under Snowstarโs rule. To Ivydapple, it didnโt seem right, but the queen was her leader, and Ivydapple would follow the Warrior Code to a fault until her death - a promise she had made upon finding out Moonbeam had become deputy of LeafClan and right before the birth of their sons. Still, she couldnโt help but cast a wary glance at the leaderโs den as she slid into camp, pawsteps losing speed. Ivydapple was nearly panting from the brisk run, but she didnโt mind - the burn of her muscles simply served as a reminder she still had them, that underneath her pelt and all of her sins she was still a warrior. Now, Ivydapple sat down and began to groom out her fur, her tongue moving in long strokes across her silver flank. She had to be tidy and well-prepared - she had an apprentice to set an example for, after all, even though Kestrelpaw's training was nearly finished.

T o n e d muscle rippled under unkempt pelt as Rosethunder prowled through the forest. The tomโs hunting had sharpened considerably since StormClan had taken the forest, forming AshClan. To his frustration he was never quite fast enough for the hares of the moor - he had always wondered why he hadnโt carried the typical StormClan build, and had instead been big and stocky. Even at twelve moons he towered over his own mother, being one of the larger cats in the Clan. He had been thrilled to discover he was well equipped for hunting in the forest. He was able to stealthily track prey, and he felt safer, happier there, hidden by the underbrush. The moor had always felt too open; Rosethunder hated being vulnerable.
Now, the dark tabbyโs eyes flashed towards a bit of movement in the debris on the forest floor. He opened his jaws, his eyes going to slits as the prey-scent touched his tongue. Claws flexed in the dirt as Rosethunder crouched. His tail stilled just above the floor and he crept forward, suppressing the growl that was trying to rise in his throat. A robin was busy just in front of him, pecking at something on the ground in the erratic, quick way that birds do. Perfect. There was silence for a moment and then the tom leaped, the birdโs head lifting just a heartbeat too late. True to his name, Rosethunder came crashing down on the birdโs back, his large paws pinning it to the ground. With a swift dip the birdโs neck cracked in his teeth, and Rosethunder lifted himself up to survey his prey. Not bad, he thought, pawing at it. Prey had suffered from the fire and was only beginning to come back, so nothing had been fat and thriving in the way green-leaf prey usually did. Time to keep going. Padding to the nearest tree, Rosethunder dug a hole and buried his prey for retrieval once his hunt had finished.

T h e fawn-colored tabby sniffed at the pile for a moment, deciding what would best suit the former StormClan queen. It had been many moons since she had joined with RippleClan - the decision had been one that Shellstar hadnโt had the rank to make, though he had to agree with his previous leaderโs mercy. StormClan had grown into something that it had not been, something without honor and with all too much glory in itself. It was AshClan, now - as much as it claimed to be a combination of Clans, at its root, Snowstar and StormClan had held the power and held it there even now. He hadnโt been paying much attention to the other Clans when Shadowheart had made her decision to leave StormClan, but he could only imagine that perhaps even then the roots of something sinister had been snagging into the Clanโs cats.
Shellstar made his decision and picked up the trout. He padded towards the nursery, pausing beside Fruitshine on the way. โGood morning,โ the leader greeted him with a dip of his head, words mumbled through the prey. He sat it down to speak. โTake out a hunting patrol, Fruitshine. Whoever is up and ready to go with you will do just fine. The pile is practically empty.โ Orders given, the leader picked up the prey. He offered another dip of his head as a thank you to the tom and then continued towards the nursery.
โShadowheart - are you awake?โ The leader poked his large, furry head into the nursery, the trout clamped tightly in his jaws. He didnโt want to wake the queen if she and her kit were asleep, though he was relieved to see that both of them seemed to be awake, and proceeded to enter the den, which was a bit cramped for his tastes, the big cat that he was. He sat the fish down beside her. โI brought you some prey. The pile was nearly empty; sorry itโs a little scrappy. Iโll make sure one of the mentors has an apprentice bring you something better later, but this should tide you over until then.โ

โ Y e s , Troutwhisker,โ came the long-haired apprenticeโs only reply. The dilute tortoiseshellโs body remained low to the ground, belly fur dragging the grass, as she slid past the toms and into a clump of bracken, which she wasted no time in marking. She had only just finished and padded back to her Clanmatesโ side, her eyes lingering once more on Foxstrikeโs pelt with a curiosity in them, when Troutwhiskerโs voice caused her gaze to snap towards the border. Her eyes narrowed as she caught sight of AshClanโs medicine cat: Ravenfeather. Given her mentorโs lack of response, Willowpaw kept her mouth shut and slid into place beside Foxstrike. Willowpaw was not a confrontational cat, and Ravnfeather was still only a medicine cat, so the apprentice didnโt feel the need to even unsheath her claws. Besides, if a fight broke out, three against one didnโt seem particularly fair.
