He purred gently. “Hm, me? Looking for Vervainclaw? Pft..” The large tom grinned embarassedly, before sticking his tongue at her, a small childish act he would do often for fun and as a joke. “I’ll wrangle the others with you Poppycloud, just for you.” He teased jokingly, enjoying to have a bit of fun then and now. “Do you two have any idea of who the new deputy would be?” He asked curiously, scanning the camp. They had many fine warriors, but knowing that his brother and himself, were still young, he hopes that Sunstar would make a valid decision.

Sparrowflight hummed in agreement. "Many of our clanmates would make a strong deputy. I know my mate, for one, would love the position." She had never felt much in the way of ambition before and would be quite happy to remain as a warrior, confident she wouldn't be chosen to step up. A lot of the other warriors would be better suited than herself. "It'll be Sunstar's first big announcement as leader .. but I believe he will make a good choice." Her tone was hopeful.

Poppycloud twitched her whiskers in amusement. “I’m sure that together we could push a few cats out of the way and grab something worthwhile.” She purred, looking at Dovetail “Blackthistle could help too. He’s got a fair amount of muscle and I’m sure he’d be willing to help out, considering you’re carrying his kits and all.” Looking back at Grayclaw, she shrugged. “Not sure.” She admitted “Who knows? Maybe you could be chosen, Grayclaw. You are his brother, after all.”

Brackenfall chuckled and gave a small shrug at his son’s glance. He took a few steps back to let others congratulate Sunstar. Sitting down, his joints gave a click and he winced. ‘I’ll have to make sure to get some herbs from Meadowlark.’ He told himself, smiling at the reception for their new leader.

Feeling her ears heat up at the mention of mates, she shuffles her paws thoughtfully in the grass. Russetsky hadn’t made himself known in the clearing yet, it was unlikely he’d been named deputy if he couldn’t greet Sunstar like the clan should. She often felt anxious or unimportant around him; though it’d be great news for him to be deputy she felt she might crumble under the pressure. “We’ll see how he does. Wolfjaw can be a little selfish and hot headed sometimes, but so can anyone. There’s never a perfect choice after all, I just hope he can handle the pressure!” She meows with a smile, mildly worried for the young leader. Any choice he made, the deputy would be older and slightly more experienced than him. It would be tough not to feel intimidated or challenged by your own choice.

Ambergaze finally pulled himself from his nest at the commotion inside camp, Sunstar is back. He paused though and looked around shortly for his assigned mate, Ivythorn. She must already be out and about. He licked his fur for a few moments, clearing the moss and other debris his black pelt collected from his nest during his slumber. The tom slipped outside of the warriors den and trotted over to Ivythorn with a smile- curling his tail in a friendly manner. He wanted to try and actually be close with Ivythorn- sure it would take time but Ambergaze wasn't a tom that went behind someone's back, assigned mates or not. Plus it could never hurt to try..right? "Good morning Ivythorn, sleep well?" He meowed- ears flicked forward, he genuinely wanted to know how she was this morning.

The she-cat chuckled softly at her companion's description of Wolfjaw. "He certainly can be like that some days." She agreed, curling her tail neatly around her paws as she gazed out thoughtfully across the clearing. "I wonder if Sunstar will chose someone closer in age to himself?" Almost the entirety of the warriors were older than Sunstar, even if some only by a few moons.

Deputy? He wanted to be deputy, he wanted it more than anyone but to serve such a young Tom with undying loyalty just wasn’t possible. Sunstar was hardly out of the apprentice den, but he’d play his part nonetheless. He easily spotted his mate’s pelt through the crowd, guessing he should join her. It wasn’t love by any means, it was arranged like the rest of them but he made the best of it. Padding over, he walks behind her first before sitting beside her. She was smaller than him, so he at least liked feeling strong around her. “He’s only just returned, survived the trip but now the clan has a hold of him.” Referring to Sunstar’s almost suffocating position. He didn’t like attention himself in that degree, having a more antisocial nature to him.

Eyeing the cats around Sunstar, she tilted her head slightly and flicked her right ear. “Unlikely, there wouldn’t be much of a choice in the matter. I think he’ll judge the same way it’s always been, even if his own situation is beyond abnormal. Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t warriors supposed to have trained an apprentice before being chosen as deputy? Narrows it down a lot; especially considering the young warriors.” Plenty of cats were twenty five moons or younger, she felt like an outcast really... Sagestep, being the oldest Warrior, would be the best choice but he also wouldn’t live to be leader someday. It was any cats game. “Someone loyal, willing to be patient and give orders without coming off as cocky. Too many cats here get offended by that.” She notes, lowering her head a little.

At first Softpatch was startled by Shadowclaw's sudden appearance and she let out a quiet mew of sorts before she let out a friendly purr. She had to look up slightly to meet his look- which in a strange was was securing. "He'll never make it out of that crowd without replying to 5000 questions first." She meowed- letting out a soft purr of amusement but she cringed visibly at how many cats were around their new leader. Softpatch was always a very friendly and warm individual but that many cats with so many questions, it would be nerve wracking that's for sure. Though suddenly it clicked that deputy would be chosen- a new deputy. Would it be her mate Shadowclaw? He's a hardworking member that's for sure and seems to easily lead others when things get tense. She wasn't sure- she hoped he did for the sheer fact it would likely make him happy and arranged mates or not, his happiness did mean something to her. "Would you serve under Sunstar..? With him being so young? If you were chosen?" She asked it quietly- while she didn't doubt the young tom's ability to be a good leader she felt maybe more responsibility would lay on a deputy- if he chose an older cat that would have more experience. Still though the whole situation made her worry- even fretful. If Sunstar chose a young inexperienced cat to be deputy would the clan suffer?

Her willingness to be kind on the spot always took him a bit off guard, but it wasn’t unwelcome. He did his best to focus on the group of cats, knowing he’d fall over his tongue if he shared her gaze long enough. Not being a natural romantic, he certainly struggled to decide whether to try or just be the solid tom he’d always been. “It’s unlikely I’ll be chosen. I’ve been framed for disappearing cats before; I can’t see him picking a said murderer.” Blunt as usual, but he never gave away whether he had or hadn’t killed cats before. “If he did pick me, or any cat twice his age, I imagine the first few moons will be turning to his deputy for advice and stability. Once he gets his claws in, it’ll just be organizing patrols.” Finding the task a little boring, though he was eager to patrol. His claws flexed thinking about fresh prey in his grasp, tired of waiting for camp to move.

She saw Sunstar smiled at her and felt her heart melt at the sight and was too distracted to notice Silentstep lean closer till she could felt them brush pelts. She was glad her friend felt the same way about her mate and didn't move away from his touch, knowing that he was just being friendly rather than romantic. Though she wondered if Sunstar knew and silently hoped he did or this would all be rather awkward to explain. Silentstep and her had been friends for a while and it would be a shame if her mate thought that they were anything more since her heart belonged to Sunstar and Sunstar alone. "It's a shame I have to wait for everyone else to disperse before I can talk to him though. However it shouldn't take too long now." She commented, not really expecting another verbal answer.

Her eyes were full of playfulness as she fell into her own hunter's crouch after Redpaw's swipe hit her paws, thankfully her friend's claws were away and the hit wasn't very hard. "You're on now." She purred back and gave a playful swipe of her own. "We can make a bet on it. Maybe who ever looses today has to clean the elder's den tonight." She added, nothing too hard considering Brackenfall was the only elder at the moment. She intentionally kept it vague considering they didn't know what type of training they were doing today, if they were hunting then it would be the who gets the most prey as for if it was combat then they would probably have to ask their mentors who won.

"Fish isn't the only prey available you know." He waited till she was on a drier surface to comment. In some aspect he imagined that Taylor would be similar to what his daughter would be like and it helped him sympathise with the she-cat a little. "Wait right here." He added after a couple heartbeats. Just a moment ago he heard the twittering of a bird and decided that he could catch it as an apology. It wasn't long till he found the plump sparrow on the ground, busy looking for food, and pounced on it. It wasn't his cleanest kill but it would do. Picking it up, he returned to Taylor and dropped it in front of her. "I couldn't help it, you kind of looked pathetic with mud all over you." He meowed to cover up his kind act.
