Jason's eyes widened for a moment as the passing human stopped breifly a few feet away. It would be so easy to attack now, rid the forest of one of the hunters, possibly save one of his kin. Yet he knew there were others close by who would hear this human's screams. He'd be murdered in an instant.
It had been bad enough when the dogs had found him sleeping beside the pool outside his den. They had bayed and howled, bringing their masters in quickly, forcing him to run. Of course the stupid beasts had followed, nipping at his paws until he finally turned and knocked them back. He hadn't killed them of course. No, the humans didn't need another reason to hunt him down. He just dazed them, forcing them back so he could escape.
However, as he watched the human look around, searching for him, he suddenly wished that he had killed the dogs. At least that way they wouldn't be able to track him as easily.
After what seemed like an eternity, the human moved away again, leaving Jason lying silently in the foilage. As soon as the scent faded, Jason was off, hurrying to leave the area as he had so many times before. This was no longer a safe place and he knew he had to move on or run the risk of losing his life.
He was breathing hard by the time he decided he was safe. His chain felt tight on his throat, though he knew it was no tighter than usual. Slowing to a walk, he sniffed the air, searching for any sign of humans or any other potential threats nearby. The only scent he caught was that of a lone deer, something he wasn't interested in at the moment.
Lowering his head, he trekked on, ears and nose alert despite the droopiness of the rest of his body.
