Just a quick question: If were apprentices do we know who our mentors are?

Riverclan was quiet. The temperature was getting colder,
and every cat was exhausted. They were all working hard,
preparing for leaf-bare. One cat though, among them, was
still awake. Minnowpaw pawed at the fresh-kill pile, seeing
what would catch his eye to snack on. He was unable to
sleep, but was still tired. The apprentice didn't hear a cat
approaching from behind. "Hello Minnowpaw, what are you
doing still awake?" Their voice was soft, in order to not
wake the others. He quickly grabbed the first thing he could,
and whipped around. "Oh, hey! I just.. Can't sleep so I thought
it'd be okay and-" The cat nods cutting him off. "Don't worry,
I won't tell, just don't do it again. I can't sleep either..." After,
they sat and began to chat for a while. About how his training
was going, happenings in the clan, and life in general. Once
they ran out of things to talk about, at moon-high, the cat
proposed to go for a walk and Minnowpaw readily agreed.

As they walked the territory, the cat began to lead them to
the lake. Reaching it, they sat down. After a while, the cat
finally spoke. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Minnowpaw nods. It was
beautiful, with the quarter moon above it. He looks up at the
cat, and cocks his head "Would you mind if I caught a fish to
replace the one I took?" The cat shook their head no, waving
the apprentice on. Minnowpaw goes and sits at the edge of
the water, watching intently to make out any fish in the
water. In doing so, he didn't hear the cat approach from behind.
They were waiting for prey of their own. Just as the apprentice
shot his paw to catch one, the cat shoved him into the water.
Minnowpaw tried to resurface for air, but the cat held him
under the surface. The more he struggled, the harder the cat
pushed. His lungs began to burn as the cat blinks slowly
"Well, I should get going. I hope you sleep well." with that,
a warm feeling spreads over him, and he drifts off to join
Starclan. The cat gets out of the water, licking themselves
dry, and heading back to camp. It wasn't long until the body
of the apprentice came out of the water, and onto the shore.

Sweetpaw

It was early morning but Sweetpaw was already up. The dancing sunlight had coaxed him out of the apprentice's den and his rumbling stomach directed him to the river. What was it that his mentor had always said? "If you want to eat, you have to hunt first." The tan cat had sort of listened to them, but was largely more interested in a butterfly that had passed the pair. Shaking his head to clear it of memory cobwebs Sweetpaw glanced down at the river. It glinted with silvery fish with scales that turned rainbow in the sun. These fish often mesmerized him but today something else caught his eye, a clump of fur. That's odd, he thought to himself, Fish don't have fur. He picked his way down the bank to see if he could spot anything else. He did. "Minnowpaw!" A yowl was ripped from his throat as he dashed down to the sodden body of his denmate, was he breathing?

Acornpaw was already awake for a some time to sort out the herbs for Duckfeather. However, she heard a yowl coming from outside of the camp. Her ears twitching, Acornpaw abandoned sorting out the herbs to poke her head out the den, wondering what the strange sound was.

Creekstar was curled up in his den, beginning to stir as light flooded inside. Yawning, the tom stretched each of his legs in turn before getting up and padding outside. He sat close to his den, paw lifted off the ground as he washed it. When a yowl from outside of the camp caught his ear, Creekstar looked up, curiosity in his eyes as he tried to work out what it was.

Cloverface awoke, stretching her legs as she padded out the warm den. She looked around, only to be startled by the loud wail. Clover took off in a run, hoping to discover where it was coming from.

Jaypaw was sleeping on his back in the apprentice den, dreaming of hunting a blue jay, as his name suggests, when he woke to a yowl near by, it sounded like another apprentice, he glared up and ran out of the den, "What...." he moaned, he saw Acornpaw run out of the camp "Something isnt right..." he started to dash after Acornpaw toward the noise. There, he saw Sweetpaw next to a breathless Minnowpaw, he slowed and stopped short to watch the action, curious behind a bush, so he was obserbant...His green eyes gleamed threw the bush at the sunlight

"He's dead!" Sweetpaw choked out to the group of cats who had gathered around him, "I-I was out here looking for fish and-and," the apprentice broke down sobbing, his sweet nature making him want to deny that something like this could have happened. He turned away from Minnowpaw's body, not able to bear looking at it anymore.
