Searching for a topic to discuss since there was actually someone to discuss things with, he commented again. "How long have you been around here? I only came to the forest a few seasons ago, but until now I've yet to meet anyone outside of clan cats."

She was panting by the time she made it back to camp, her amber and black pelt dusted. Foxstripe froze, seeing Snakemint's limp body on the ground, and Juniperfrost and Threeleg nearby. "Great StarClan... It cannot be so." Her amber eyes clouded with deep pain, seeing how upset Threeleg was. "I am so sorry... May StarClan let him still walk with you in your dreams."

Bramblewhisker saw Snakemint limply lying on the ground, his green eyes wide with shock. He dropped his head sadly, padding to Juniperfrost's side, pressing his muzzle into her shoulder to comfort her. "I am sorry. He whispered softly to her.

Fernstar felt her eyes grow misty as Threeleg lay Snakemint down. She remembered when he was still a Snakepaw, learning about the ways of the medicine cat. With a saddened sigh, she sat down close to Threeleg and bent her head, pushing her nose gently into his tabby fur. I hope you find good sanctuary in StarClan, and that you will watch over us and especially Threeleg. The leader prayed silently.


Threeleg twitched an ear to tell Foxstripe that he'd heard. The tom didn't want to break the vigil by talking, but right now he longed for her fur beside his more than ever before. He felt lonely and cold without Snakemint there beside him.


Juniperfrost shuffled closer as Bramblewhisker sat beside her, pushing her flank against his. She felt her eyes grow misty as grief washed over her.


Sparrowpaw stopped chewing at the sight of Snakemint and cats gathering around his limp body. Staring at Hailpaw, the tom got up and bounded over. Instinctively, he sat beside his Clanmates silently, pushing his nose into Snakemint's lifeless body. The young tom waited for Hailpaw to join him, so he could feel her warmth beside him and not feel so lonely.


Aquilo thought for a moment. "Well I was born in this forest, just a little outside CloverClan territory so I'm used to the forest." He mewed. "But my sister is in the Clan."


Bone picked his way through the undergrowth, tail twitching. He was following the scent of a wood pigeon that was leading him further into CloverClan territory. The sight of the wood pigeon soon met Bone's pale green eyes and he crouched, breathing in its scent. Leaping forward, he caught the pigeon beneath his long claws and killed it, picking it up with eyes gleaming with triumph. "Did I do well, Breezetail?" The rogue asked before realising that he wasn't Sootpaw anymore. Why do I always do this? I just need to accept that I am who I am and Breezetail is gone. He sighed and sat among an oak's twisted roots and began to eat the pigeon.

Torrentheart laid down next to Threeleg and Fernstar, a fresh wave of grief washing over her. She hadn't known Snakemint very well, but he had been a skilled medicine cat, and she had definitely respected him. StarClan rest his soul, she thought. Resting her muzzle in his fur, she closed her eyes as she listened to the breathing of her Clanmates.


As Daywatcher sat beside her Clanmates, she couldn't help but notice the teeth and claw marks in Snakemint's body: the marks of a cat. Who would ever think to kill our medicine cat? she couldn't help but wonder. I must confide in another cat later on about this.


What now? Bearpelt mentally snarled to himself. He had managed to fall asleep and was dreaming of chasing a group of mice when he was awoken. Pricking his ears, he noticed that the meows outside were full of grief. "Someone's died," he murmered to himself. He could easily recognize that familiar sadness encasing a clan. He padded outside of his den in time to see several of his clanmates gathering around what appeared to be Snakemint's body. Threeleg must be hurt the most, he thought to himself as he watched the tom sit by his mentor's body. I'll have to talk to him later.

Robin looked back at Aquilo with suddenly curious eyes. "Your sister is a clan cat?" he meowed. A flood of questions followed the first. "How did that happen? Do the clan cats actually take in outsiders? And do you get to see her?" He stopped himself as he realized he had asked questions that may have been a bit too personal for answers. The tom looked away, abashed, and apologized. "Pardon me. You don't have to answer anything." He wrapped his tail around his paws stiffly, realizing he could have just angered the one cat he'd talked to in moons.

The first time he'd taught Threeleg about yarrow and how bitter Threeleg had said it was. The first time he was shown cobwebs and he couldn't hold it in his paws without the cobwebs sticking to his pads. Or the time when he was first shown juniper and destroyed the whole stock by tripping and landing on them all. Snakemint had just laughed. He'd been so understanding, and now he was gone. A new wave of grief and sadness washed over Threeleg and he buried his face deeper into his mentor's fur to hide coming tears.
